*T.W. light mention of child abuse and cursing*
Sirius Black was on his way to the dungeons. It was midnight, or probably the first morning hours, the marauder couldn't tell. His purpose for being down there that late? A prank, obviously. Maybe he could get some snacks from the kitchen on the way back.
As he was checking the Marauder’s Map, he saw something that shouldn't be there. Something that made him stop abruptly, his muscles tensing, his breath quickly escaping from his mouth. His anxiety and fear levels were rising, it was a fear he hadn't felt since a few months prior when he had escaped the prison everyone else called home. An anxiety concerning people he cared about. A feeling that came into view in the first place because in the Astronomy tower was his brother, pacing back and forth.
He knew his brother well. As such, he knew something was wrong. He was not the pacing or losing-his-temper type of person. With a swift move, he turned around and raced to the tower, his heart full of sorrow, pain and concern. The Slytherins could wait.
Sorrow was something he was familiar with, especially when it came to his family. Not his parents of course, he didn't care about a cruel archaist hag or a cold soulless figure he had to call 'Father'. No, he was talking about his real family. The one person he had to leave behind and regretted leaving every minute after he had left. Regulus.
Pain was something that came with the sorrow regarding his latest important decision. He couldn't help but feel it every time he looked at his brother across the Great Hall or in the corridors.
Still, that immense pain in his chest with a pang of guilt tugging at his stomach and his brother's cold glares always left him shocked, with the air stuck in his lungs, resulting in concern. Concern for Reg's future because of his stupid choices. That concern leads to fear. His brother wasn't fond of the dark arts, but with him alone with their parents and no one to protect him who knew what he would become.
He had finally reached the door of the Astronomy classroom. What would he find inside? He didn’t know. What he did know though was that he had to help his baby brother. He slowly opened the door, making as much noise as possible so as not to startle him more. He didn't know what he expected, but it wasn't this.
Regulus Black was now sitting down in the far corner of the Astronomy classroom with a cigarette in his hand, his pale face red and tear-stained, but his bloodshot gray eyes dangerously calm. Like the eerily quiet moments before the tornado hits. One thing that Regulus excelled at was having control of his emotions. So, when he said, "Good morning, brother," his voice didn't tremble or show weakness. He had the virtues of a true Black, unlike him.
"Reggie...what happened?" Sirius asked, with a gentleness he usually kept well-hidden. It seemed to set his brother off. It was like looking at a completely different person. His eyes bulged out of his head, full of fear and negligence. He let out a maniacal yet desperate laugh, transforming into a true psychopath and scaring the shit out of Sirius. He simply answered, "I'm far too in Siri. I can't get out," before going back to that dangerous calmness, cigar in mouth.
That scared Sirius even more. Something had definitely happened, Regulus hated smoking and vulnerability. This was not his well-composed, polite brother. "What do you mean Reggie?" he said, his voice trembling but with the same gentleness. He sat down beside him, but at the same time his brother got up mumbling, "They made me join Him.”
Sirius was stunned and hurt by his brother’s declaration and actions. It was happening. He was already being brainwashed. He had to get him out of this. He had to, he owed him that much.
"I can help you, Reg. I can get you out, I can-"
"There is no point Sirius."
"No, listen to me I can get you out of Grimmauld Place and-"
