It had been two years. Two years since the fights with James and Sirius. Two years since he pushed everyone away. Two years since he 'unofficially' joined the Death Eaters. He was eighteen now, but he still remembered vividly the aftermath of his fights.

The next day, Sirius had been looking miserable with a glum-faced James by his side. They had both been staring at him with a haunting look, one he would never forget, and that had continued for at least three months. Not that it mattered now. Nothing mattered now.

He had changed a lot in the past two years, he had gone through a lot. His body had trudged through the dark, but his mind couldn't take it. He wanted to step into the light, to finally make the right choice. A choice that he knew would make his brother proud. He had been gathering intel for the Order of the Phoenix for the past few months, but he was still hesitant.

First of all, he knew they wouldn't trust him, especially Sirius, not after what he did to him. James might, but he couldn't bear to face him. He had heard the rumors and he knew that he had married Evans.

Nevertheless, his crush never diminished, only amplified. He fell for him, and he fell hard. He couldn't see him with her, it would break his heart.

Secondly, he still didn't trust Dumbledore. The old man was as manipulative as his dear old mother at this point. Enough of that though. He would not need to make that decision anyway.

Right now he was gathering information from his house elf, Kreacher. He had sent him to help Voldemort the night before, in hopes of finding out his darkest secret. And Kreacher's story gave him more than enough. Anger flared through his chest as he listened to the story.

He had used Kreacher, only to throw him away like he was some dirt under his shoe. Unacceptable. Regulus loved Kreacher with all his heart and it shattered him to know how He had treated the poor elf.

Now though he had an ace up his sleeve. He knew Voldemort's secret and he would try to destroy it. He was pacing back and forth in the Black household's kitchen. With no one to disturb him -due to the late hours- his idea seemed crazy, impossible to achieve.

Horcruxes! Regulus could not believe himself when he had finally pieced together all the puzzle pieces. Voldemort is using horcruxes. The Order won't stand a chance. His brother and his friends won't stand a chance, unless someone destroys it. He hadn't had much time to do research, whatever he had found was scarce and complicated, but he knew it was possible. They needed help; they were already dying one by one.

Upon thinking these, his mind filled with doubts. He wasn't ready, he thought. He couldn't possibly do this. But when he thought of James, his James with Lily and Sirius with that Lupin boy and he knew he had to do it for them, so they can have their happy ending they so much deserved.

He didn't have a future anyway. Not really. Even if he survived this, all that awaited him if he returned was death. And death was certainly much better than being a Death Eater, something he had never wanted to be in the first place.

For you guys, he thought. I hope you're proud.
He held a replica of the locket in his hand, squeezing it so tight it left angry red marks. He had made it just a few minutes prior, putting a letter for Voldemort inside, his last letter. It was a sacrifice he was willing to make, even though he was terrified of the outcome. He looked at Kreacher, placing the locket in the deepest pocket he could find.

"Kreacher, could you take me where the Dark Lord took you please?" he gently asked the elf.
He felt horrible for having to do this to him but Kreacher was his only option for help, the only one he could trust. The house elf could only nod as tears streamed down his face. He took Regulus's hand and they disappeared in a swirl of darkness.
