~song of the chapter: adventure of a lifetime- coldplay~
The full moon that shined down on them was bright enough to guide them on their way to the forest, which was shrouded by mist and where no light penetrated, and as soon as they stepped into it, Fred casted "Lumos".
Blaire wondered how he could perform a spell so easily, because the only thing she could think about was the warmth of his hand which was still holding hers, almost in a protective way.Wandering around aimlessly in the dark, Blaire suddenly noticed a heavy change in temperature. The warm, summer air was left behind and they walked into what seemed like a cloud of heavy, foggy air.
They continued walking deeper into the forest, Fred occasionally checking for movement and sounds. "You've gotta be careful in here, we don't wanna end up as food now, do we", he chuckled.
Blaire shivered. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, she thought.A few minutes went by where the two were walking besides each other, both sunken deep in thoughts.
They crossed many branches and roots, and one time Blaire almost tripped over one and was glad Fred was there to give her a more secure footing.
"All right, I think now we can talk as much as we want to, no one would hear us.", Fred suddenly said, stopped walking and turned to face the girl. His presence was sending shock waves through her body, making every nerve in her body feel awake.
"Hey, did you see a ghost or why aren't you saying anything?" , he joked. Pulling herself together and trying to act normally, she quickly responded that everything was fine and she was just tired. A lie that she had used a lot of times today.
Still, he seemed to accept it and she started talking about last night, making it seem like she was apologizing for it."You do know that I'm not mad at you, right? Last night with you was amazing and I treasure every moment that we get to spend together."
A silence fell over them. It wasn't an uncomfortable one, it was a good silence, it was like that second of peace you deeply desire after a day full of chaos and noise.Time seemed frozen. The moon was shining through the trees and the only thing illuminating the darkness was Fred's wand, tightly clutched in his fist. "You know, Fred, you're not that bad.", Blaire said, not facing him.
She felt a force pull her closer to him and looked up at him, towering over her. "Not bad?", he asked. "You're good, Fred."
His lips slightly parted and he dropped his wand on the ground, his other hand making its way to cup Blaire's face.
Their hearts, racing fast in union. Their bodies, closer together than ever.
He bent down to her ear and whispered "You're not bad either, Sandrins"
"Not bad?""No, you're good. But not in the way that I'm good. You're good because you make people see the good in themselves. You make them feel better and care about others more than you care about yourself. There's not a bad bone inside of you."
Their lips were only inches away from each other now. Fred continued.
"Do you even know how beautiful you are?"
Blaire shook her head in disbelief.
The temptation was overwhelming. Both struggled to keep their cool and not give in to the thing they desired the most."And that's why I think we should stay friends.", Fred whispered, and it seemed like he himself wasn't agreeing with what he had just said.
And with that, the bubble, in which they resided, burst.
Stepping back, Blaire realized what had just happened. "Are you seriously telling me this right now? Friends, Fred?"
"Blaire, we both know it's for the best. I don't deserve you."Tears started forming in her eyes as the girl continued to step back from Fred, seeing the hurt in his eyes too. A wave of anger crashed in and she couldn't help but start yelling at him. "And you're telling me this now? You couldn't have just said something earlier?" She thought about saying something else but was cut off by Fred being unable to move.
"Blaire, what have you done?", he said worriedly.
"What, now I'm the bad guy?" Her tears were now freely running down her cheeks.
