Third person POV:
The voice Lando heard was familiar but he just couldn't pin point who it belonged to. It was croaky but rough and hoarse almost raspy, like whomever it belonged to had been yelling beforehand- or maybe even wailing. Adriana and the mystery voice spoke to each other harshly and lando watched the door ever so attentively, and Alexandrina had rolled over to face him in her slumber Lando cradled her head close to his chest to blur any noise from those outside the room.
The door to the bedroom flung open with force and in the doorway stood a fatigued Max Verstappen, the bags that decorated his under eyes were a shadowy plum colour and look of disappear was shown across his face. "Oh great you're here too?" Max barked, the look of sadness and disappear quickly turned to irritation. The volume of his distaste woke everyones dear Alexandrina up abruptly. The brunette sat up and glared at the dutchman and he apologised immediately and explained he wanted to drop his bags off because he'd be staying till Sunday. It made Alexandrina choke on the insult she was about to hurl at him and she instantly pursed her lips.
"As you were then." she said bluntly before removing herself from Lando's arms and storming out of the room without looking back. The two men who now looked like boys were shocked by her tone and Lando wasn't sure what to make of it for he had never seen her like that. He didn't realise she had 'power' over Max, but she wouldn't call It that. they both looked at each other with their mouths slightly hung open. Max felt the blood rush to his cheeks he felt like a child who had just been told off, like his father was lecturing him. The room was silent but they could hear her ranting to Adriana and saying things like; "And just like that hes back?, are you not going to make him wait? You should've seen him, he walked into that room like he owned it, its only been a day are you really going to let him go to the next race alone? If Lando ever did anything like that to me I swear I'd-" and that's where she stopped. She realised she wasn't only being selfish but, the fact that shed openly admitted she thought of Lando as a boyfriend was something she wished to keep to herself, and as the bedroom wasn't that far she knew everyone had heard. She cleared her throat; "Adriana im sorry that- that wasn't for me to say, if you think you're ready then i'll be here by your side. I promise." and just like that it was as if the girls hadn't argued in the first place they hugged each other so tightly neither of them wanted to let go. Max grinned at Lando boyishly and threw one of the pillows that had been discarded on the floor at him. and strangely Lando dodged the pillow with a glare at Max- did he not think of Alexandrina in the same way? Or was he just offended by her remark?
In actual fact he was confused, why can't the girl ask the guy out? he thought to himself. Lando Lando Lando if only you knew how dating worked, technically she could ask him if she wanted to but that would just be weird- in her eyes anyway. Both boys went out into the living room and for Drina's sake they all acted as if she hadn't said anything.
"It's kind of late, what do you guys want to eat?" Adriana asked she coughed twice meaning 'lets go' but she looked at her friend and gestured towards the door with her eyes.
"Uhhhhmmm I think I might go home, like you said its a little late right?" she said bring to contain her amusement, in all honesty it was only 6 o'clock, "Hmm if only I had a way home.."
With a nudge from Max, Lando engaged with the conversation (finally), "Oh yeah um I can drop you if you'd like?" and just like that he headed for the door without a goodbye. The other three still stood in the living room exchanged various looks to each other- most of the looks mocking his expression.
When they got outside it began to rain lightly- even though it was summer, Drina jogged to the passenger side door and opened it, the last few times shed been in a car with Lando he'd been adamant to open the door for her. He passed her his phone and asked her to type her address in. The short drive was silent every time Alexandrina went to use the radio he immediately turned it off the only things that could be heard was the rush of the city and her occasional sigh. Lando's shiny orange McLaren was just that. Well on the outside anyway, the passenger side floor was covered in water bottles, socks, coffee cups and old magazines all crumpled up around drinas feet. She was tense, she felt unwelcome. Lando parked up right in front of her house and stared at it; the exterior was crisp white, it was tall with a wrought iron gate at the front, a small pathway leading to the front door which was lined with peonies. 'pretty grand for a student' he thought
"Is something bothering you?" she quizzed starting to feel more relaxed, "Is it was I said at Adriana's?"
He chuckled which threw her off, "Every time we hang out we always have a good time, also do you think I'd ever do to you what Max did to her?" he urged with a soft smile turning his body towards her. technically he didn't answer the question.
Lando stared at her waiting patiently for a response. "So why didn't you talk to me? I get that silence is nice but you were so off, and the radio thing was just rude you could've just said no, anyway thanks for the lift I guess." she mumbled whilst opening the door. He mimicked her actions and followed her to the front door, checking his car was locked- though the area was so nice he probably didn't need to.
Alexandrina opened the door and without turning round bluntly said; "If you're coming in at least take your shoes off." The ceilings in the house were high and the hallway was long, almost endless. The lines were sharp and almost every accent table was adorned with fresh flowers. Photos hung on the cream walls, and every single frame was painted in the same shade of gold -they came in all shapes and sizes. He followed her into an open plan kitchen, she threw her keys onto the countertop and set her bag and jacket on the dining table. "I'm just going to get changed, uh please- make yourself at home" she said. As her footsteps got further and further away Lando sauntered back into the corridor to look at the pictures. One of the larger pictures was in black and white, a family portrait- all the members looked so similar each had the same nose, jawline and eye shape, they looked perfect. On the hands of all of them he saw signet rings. The next picture looked like it was taken on a disposable, it was of Alexandrina and Adriana, they looked about 16/17, both of them wore a dark green school uniform. It looked like a candid, a moment of pure delight captured forever, her smile reached her eyes and her cheeks were pink from what was probably laughter, the ends of her hair were dyed a dusky blue. The smallest frame was contained an image of the entire red bull team circa 2016 so it looked like max's first win. in the centre was the infamous trio plus Daniel Ricciardo. Lando brushed his index finger along the sides of the frame, studying everyones face. "That's a good picture huh," Drina said making him jump. All signs of tension between the pair had basically dissolved.
"I can't believe you had blue hair!" Lando laughed sounding surprised
"Oh god you saw that one?! I used to dye my hair crazy colours all the time; I've done pink, dark green, purple, grey," she confessed, they wondered back into the kitchen; she perched on the island while Lando sunk into one of the chairs at the dining table picking up a magazine, "Are you staying for dinner?"
"Sure, if its okay with you," he said sweetly to which she rolled her eyes in response as if to say obviously, "What do you want? I can run out and get it,"
"Ever heard of Deliveroo old man?"
"Don't you read the paper every morning?" he said cheekily raising an eyebrow and grinning at her
"Ah you got me there" she jumped down and sat in one of the chairs next to him reaching for her laptop.
He put his arm round the back of her chair and brought her chair closer to his whilst they searched for some food to satisfy their tastebuds- he prayed she didn't ask for sushi. Luckily she settled on pizza.
