Dan's father was from England and was a transfer student at Honeydale where he met Dan's mother. His father went missing soon after Dan was born, so he was raised by his mother for his whole life. At first, his mother moved to the city with him, but moved back to Honeydale after Dan was 10. Dan never had many friends in the city, so he grew up to be shy and nervous around people he didn't know well. After what had happened to them all when he was 14, he grew closer to Lukey and the two dated not long after the incident.
