AN: Through the grace of God, I'm so pleased to have been able to bring you this chapter! I hope you all had a great holiday break so far. This chapter is slightly longer than usual, but it's more than worth it, I assure you. I hope you all have a blessed New Year, and I will see you next chapter.

Pagliacci-11.

Aelita had slept quite soundly, and as she awoke, the gentle roll of thunder announced the arrival of the rain from the forecast last night. Rain began to fall gently, and she listened to the droplets strike the window. In many ways, even though others, including herself, saw coming back to Kadic as a slight step backward, Aelita couldn't shake this feeling. The feeling that the old walls of the school were her real home.

Looking across the room, Aelita saw Amelia gently sleeping, and she noticed that Amelia was a remarkably quiet sleeper. She wasn't given to snoring or even the occasional jolt in sleep, as was common in a few others. Aelita continued to watch when suddenly, as if cued, Amelia began to lurch forward. The girl's eyes shot open, and she bolted from her bed and out into the hall. Aelita got up just as quickly, and watching the young girl speed down the hall; she saw her head towards the lavatory.

Aelita gently went to the door and heard retching, and an agonized groaned as she heard Amelia say, "Fucking body, of all things to start up, this is it."

Aelita gently aligned herself beside the door. Once finished, Amelia, to her surprise, didn't go back to the dorm but instead headed downstairs. Aelita followed, just a little behind her, and she saw Amelia head towards the infirmary. Aelita watched and saw Amelia knock a peculiar way, three times and then a fourth after a momentary pause. The door immediately opened, and she saw the new nurse Mr. Beck open the door, and he let Amelia in.

Aelita swiftly and silently went up to the door and heard the following,

"I'm sorry it's early, pa. It's just the bile won't stop."

"I more than get it. There's nothing to apologize for; it's just how it is for you. Here, take these and take them back to your room, take them as needed."

"I can't stand this, honestly. I'm good and physically just where I should be. Why is this just the one unshakable drawback?"

"Hey, count your blessings as your mamma said. Let's consider that it's just one issue you have and not a real disorder, 'kay? Now, head back to the dorm, and I'll see you later."

Aelita saw the door open, and she saw Amelia turn in her direction; the expression that greeted her was a mixture of both surprise and suspicion.

"Problem?"

"No," Aelita asked, "It's just not often you see a girl bolt from her bed and blitz to the bathroom just as she wakes. There's also the issue of overall concern that comes with observing such situational behavior from your roommate."

Amelia looked at her surprisedly, "Wow, you need to take a break from overly serious people. What the heck, girl? Are you a machine trying to emulate emotion?"

Aelita chuckled, "Welcome to my world."

"If it means sounding like an emotionless member of the Borg, I'll pass, thank you."

Aelita laughed a bit, "Are you always so blunt?"

Amelia shrugged, "Yeah, I guess. It's better to be an honest asshole than it is to be a fanciful liar; people just respect you more."

Aelita nodded, "I have a friend who's a bit like that. She's a bit overly-certain about things but, you know, can't change people overnight."

"Who said she needs changing? How is she so overly-certain?"
