John produced a wooden box from his pocket. I stared at it curiously. He slowly opened the lid to reveal a braided silver bracelet.
“(Yn)… This is for you,” he said softly, “It is just like our lives. The moment we met, our lives have been intertwined and melted together. I don’t think I can ever live without you as you’re part of my life now.”
“Wow, this is gorgeous,” I said, admiring the bracelet after John had put in on my wrist, “Thank you, John. I can’t imagine a life without you… And Edward,” I hugged him tightly, and kissed his cheek.
“(Yn), I do love you, I really do,” he said, desperately, “I cannot lose you. You can’t imagine how much I want you to choose me.”
“John? (Yn)?” Edward came back, sounding nervous, with a bunch of colorful flowers in his hands, “What happened when I was gone?”
I let go of John, and stood up. I was about to say something as Edward spotted my new bracelet.
“Did John give you that?” he asked, pointing at my wrist.
“Umm, yes,” I said.
“Well (Yn), I also have something for you, but before that, I have to present you with these flowers first – this bunch of flowers is just like you, before you came, my life was kind of dull – but of course I’m glad that I have John,” Edward added, as he saw John raise his eyebrow at him, “But when you came, my life has become much more colorful, just like these flowers, the way they color the meadow, is just like the way you light up my life. I love you (Yn).”
“Wow Edward…” I was left speechless by his speech. Having two boys showing their love for you in a matter of minutes was just… Overwhelming. I had never felt so loved before.
I took the flowers and hugged Edward, “Thank you, my life has also become much, much more meaningful after I met you and John, and you have no idea,”
“And John, don’t get mad okay, I’m going to add something to your bracelet,” Edward said after he had pulled away. John remained seated on the floor. Edward reached into his pocket and took out a tiny silver box.
He opened the lid and produced a red glistering heart-shaped crystal charm. Edward took it out carefully, and attached it to my bracelet.
“(Yn), this heart represents my love for you,” Edward began in a serious tone, “It is like my heart. Before I have met you, my heart was just like the crystal in a dark room. It did not shine or glister. But after you have come into my life, there is sunlight, and you make my heart shine. Everything seems to have become much more beautiful.”
“Oh Edward…” I looked at the charm, and stood on my tiptoe to kiss Edward on the cheek, “Thank you. So much!”
“Hey (Yn)…” John stood up, and took my hand with the bracelet, “Don’t ever take that off even if you choose Edward, okay? Although it’s not like it’s going to happen,”
“John!” Edward slapped him playfully on the arm, “You know you’re going to lose!”
“Guys, stop it okay I still haven’t chosen… And if you keep on fighting I’m going to find someone else,” I said, and deep in my mind, a voice kept telling me that I had spoken the right thing. I should leave them to avoid hurting one of them, or even worse, both of them. I loved them so much that I really could not bear the idea of hurting them.
“Okay okay, since we’re finished now, shall we get back?” John asked.
So they packed everything, and I linked arms with Edward and held John’s hand, as I was holding a bouquet with one hand.
We walked back to their house. When we reached the plaza, I saw some guards from the castle in the distance. John and Edward seemed to have seen them, as they tensed up and stopped walking.
“Oh, no,” I gasped, as I saw the guards were walking in our direction, “Turn around, turn around!”
We turned to the right, and I prayed frantically in my mind, hoping that the guards would not see me. We walked into the busy street, melting into the crowd. I was about to heave a sigh of relief, when a voice suddenly called behind us.
“It’s Princess (Yn)!” I heard a man shout.
Then I heard the crowd whispering and everyone had seemed to stop doing whatever they were doing, turning to stare at me.
“Run!” John shouted, and we ran down the street, pushing shocked people out of our way.
I heard men shouting behind us, and also heavy footsteps. I ran as fast as my feet could carry me, holding onto John’s hand and Edward’s arm.
We ran and ran, and I could feel my energy was nearly used up. The pain in my chest was unbearable; it felt like I could not breathe anymore.
“Ah!” I tripped. Although the twins’ had kept me from falling onto the floor, I had twisted my ankle.
“(Yn)!” John stopped immediately, looking back as he was the one leading the way.
“Oww!” I yelled, not being able to stand with two feet.
“Edward, hold this!” John thrust the picnic basket into Edward’s empty hand, and heaved me onto his back, then started to run again.
I held onto John’s neck tightly; although we were in danger, I could not resist burying my face into John’s neck and inhale his sweet scent. I wanted to kiss his neck, but I did not want to distract him.
“No way,” suddenly, I heard Edward gasped behind us. John quickly stopped.
I looked up, and saw a few guards turning the corner in front of us, eyes zeroed on us. I looked behind, and saw there were also some guards following close behind.
We were trapped.
People around us started to melt away from us, seeing there were so many guards advancing on us; it would not turn out good.
“Princess (Yn), we came at your father’s order to bring you back,” one of the men in front of us said.
“Tell him I’m not going back. It’s not like he likes my presence anyway,” I replied coldly, tightening my arms around John’s neck. I was surprised that I had not choked him yet.
“Please tell the king that we would take good care of his daughter,” John added.
“She feels happy here and tell him that he doesn’t have to worry,” Edward joined in.
“I’m afraid that I will have to obey the king’s order,” the man said, “Princess (Yn), please come with us.”
“Not in a million years. I’m not going back,”
“Then I’m afraid that we will have to take you back forcefully,” he said, and signaled the men to get me.
John tightened his grip on my thighs, and Edward wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, “No, you can’t!” Edward half pleaded, “Please, she doesn’t want to!”
“More like you don’t want her to,” the man smiled evilly.
John tried to back away from the advancing men, and Edward kept a hand behind my back.
“Stop it! I order you!” I shouted, frustrated.
“We have to follow the king’s rule,” that cruel guard said, and added harshly, “Not yours.”
John and Edward tried to fight back the guards, but there were so many of them, and eventually two men took my arms, and I kept kicking my legs in the air, yelling desperately. John and Edward had been taken down by their arms too. I looked at them, with tears welling in my eyes.
“(Yn)… We’re sorry that we cannot keep our promise,” John said, sadly.
“No! You can! Let go of me!” I shouted at the men, but they would not let go.
“JOHN! EDWARD!” I screamed on top of my lungs while the guards kept dragging me away from them.
“(Yn)! I love you!” I heard John yelled in the crowd, as more and more people were filling in the gap between us.
“We always do!” Edward added.
“I LOVE YOU TOO!” I shouted back, when they were finally hidden completely in the crowd.
Tears flowed helplessly and freely down my cheek as I was carried away.
