“Do you have any idea on what you have done?” Father roared at me, “ANY?”
I just kept on sobbing, shaking involuntarily. I was brought back to the castle, to hell. I was made to stand in front of my father, who was sitting on the throne. Rosary was sitting on the small throne which was against the left wall of the room. I was sure that she kept giving me evil glances when Father was not watching.
I did not reply; my mind was filled with the last image I had of John and Edward. The two people who had been extremely nice to me. The nicest people I had ever met in my entire life. Not even Charlotte could come close. And I loved them.
“(YN)!” Father yelled so loud that my ears hurt. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Rosary flinched.
I could not hold it in anymore, “FATHER! PLEASE!” I screamed, “Let me go back please… I don’t want to be here and you don’t, either! So why do you have to keep me here when I irritate you so much?”
“So you’re arguing with me? Say it again!” I looked up and saw Father’s face was as red as a tomato. He was really mad.
The tears could no longer be held in. I cried uncontrollably, slurring my words, “Please, Father, please let me leave,”
“Do you know what you’re talking about?” he boomed, “What if rumors start spreading and people say that I’m not nice to my daughter and that I’ve kicked her out? WHAT WOULD PEOPLE THINK, HUH?”
“All you think about is YOURSELF!” I started to get angry, “You don’t care about me, or my MOTHER! She loved me enough to give birth to me and sacrificed her life. She wanted me to be born, and you’re not even helping her with her wish, just because you miss her!”
Father was shaking with anger. I could almost see steam coming out from his ears.
“Say it. Again,” he spat coldly.
“I said, YOU ARE SELFISH and what are you going to do with me? Torture me more and ruin Mother’s last wish?” I said, not caring about a thing anymore. Without John and Edward, I might as well die.
Father stormed towards me and slapped me hard across my face. I fell to the floor, holding a hand to my burning cheek. Tears silently rolled down my face – they were tears of anger.
“Why don’t you just kill me already?” I said, trying to control my shaky voice.
“Bring her back to her room, and don’t give her food until the day after tomorrow,” Father turned around, ordering the guards.
“Wait, Father!” the annoying voice of Rosary rang in my ears, “Don’t you think you should lock her up this time? I mean, really put a lock on her door?”
“Rosary, dear, I guess you’re right,” Father turned to face me again, and gave another order, “Lock up her door, too.”
“Yes, sir,” the guards came forward, grabbed me by the arms and heaved me off the floor. I shook their hands away and stood up by myself. My face was burning from that slap and anger. I looked towards Rosary, and saw her smiling from ear to ear wickedly. I cursed her under my breath. I stumbled my way down the corridor, down the hallway, and up the stairs with a few guards shadowing me.
When they had made sure that the lock was secure, I heard them go away. I sat down on my bed, waiting for my whole being cool down. That Rosary finally got her wish. And after all that running and shouting, I was exhausted. I lied down on the bed, and my stomach growled. It had been quite a long time since that picnic I had with John and Edward…
I lifted up my left arm to look at the bracelet. The silver bracelet shone beautifully under the setting sun outside the window, while the red heart glistered gracefully.
Just thinking of them made my eyes well up again. I quickly wiped my newly-formed tears away; I had cried too much today. I held my left hand close to my chest, and closed my eyes. Images of John and Edward filled my mind.
“(Yn)…” ah, that was Edward’s voice… I could hear his voice ringing clearly in my head.
“(Yn)!” this time, it was John’s. It was louder, and it sounded urgent.
“Pssh! (Yn)!” suddenly, I realized it was not my imagination. It was really John and Edward’s voices!
I quickly climbed out of bed and went to the window. I peered down, and saw two dark figures near the edge of the forest.
“(YN)!” Edward appeared from the shadow, trying to yell quietly.
“Oh my God! EDWARD!”
“(Yn)! You’re really there,” John stepped out too, joining Edward. He looked relieved.
“What are you two doing down there?” I asked.
“You are my princess, the one I need to liberate,” John sang.
“Liberate, liberate, yeah,” Edward chimed in.
“Are you insane? You could get caught!” I said, starting to panic. But I had to admit, I was touched.
“It doesn’t matter,” John said, “We’re not living without your love anyway.”
“No matter what, we will do our best and we are not afraid to risk it for you,” Edward added, “We promised, remember?”
“John… Edward…” I was very, very touched by their words. I had never ever been loved like this before. I caught a tear before it could roll down from my chin.
“Don’t cry, (Yn),” John said softly.
“We don’t like to see pretty girls cry,” Edward said.
“You have to know that I really, really do love you two,” I said, with all my heart.
“Ditto,”
I sniffed, “So, what are we going to do now?”
“Do you have some kind of rope in your room?” John asked.
“Umm, I guess not, but I do have a couple of capes that can be tied together into a rope,” I replied.
“Good! Make it quick!” Edward said, excitedly.
I almost sprinted to my closet and fished out some capes. I tied them securely into a rope, and went back to the window again.
“Done!” I told them.
“Now, tie one end to something secure,” John instructed, and I did so. I tied it onto the bed post.
“Throw the other end down,” Edward said.
“And I’ll have to… Climb down?” I asked, unsure. It looked pretty scary to climb down from my room.
“Yes, I’m afraid you’ll have to do it,” John said, seeing my nervous expression.
“Don’t worry (Yn), we’ll catch you,” Edward assured me, and they waited besides the other end of the made do rope.
I took a deep breath, and started to slide down the rope. My heart was racing like mad, trying to escape from my rib cage the whole time.
Just a couple of feet before I reached the ground, I heard some tiny ripping noise. “Uh-oh,” I gasped, and I was suddenly in the air, falling down. I bit my lip hard to avoid screaming.
“Gotcha!” John said, catching me. He helped me stand on my feet again.
“Thanks,” I said, trying to stand properly. My sprained ankle was feeling better now.
They just stared at me and I stared back. I had missed them. I attacked them with a sudden hug and they both stumbled back a few paces.
“Whoa there,” Edward said, returning my hug. I was wrapped in the arms of the two men that I loved.
“I’ve missed you,” I whispered.
“Me too…” John said.
“I love you, (Yn),” Edward said, kissing my hair.
Then I heard some noises from the corner.
“Quick! Hide!” I whispered urgently, and we ran towards the forest.
We hid behind a tree. Two armed guards rounded the corner, chatting loudly.
“Did you hear that the king slapped (Yn) again?” one of them said, “They said he slapped so hard this time that even James jumped!”
Then the two of them boomed with laughter. I looked behind me, to see John and Edward boiling with anger.
“How can he treat you like that? He’s your father, for goodness sake!” John said.
“I told you,” I mumbled.
“And those men! They talked about it like a joke! Don’t they know the word ‘respect’?” Edward huffed.
“This time, we’ll bring you to somewhere far away so they can never find you again, and we can all live in peace,” John said, “We will take care of you forever, (Yn).”
I was about to reply, when to my horror, one of the men shouted, “(Yn) has escaped again!”
I looked at the men, and I saw them staring at the rope hanging down from the window.
