I reached over to grab the hammer with my left hand while my right hand held the nail in place. The blanket had torn during the night so I needed to put it back up. Can't risk the walkers seeing through the window and exposing ourselves to some pretty risky situations.

A little background information in case you've been living under a rock for the past month give or take. Somehow, some way people started coming back to life as zombies. Crazy I know, but hear me out alright? The news just started blasting a stay in doors order on repeat. People were eating each other. If you got bit you would die yet somehow come back as one of those things. It's shocking if you come across another person. The majority of the population got wiped out in the first couple of weeks. It's crazy how fast everything goes from normal to a literal shit show.

Megan and I had been hopping from place to place for a while until we ran into Morgan and his son Duane. They're a kind duo. We've been holding up in a cozy two story house with them for a week or so now. We keep the doors and windows blocked off with sheets or thick cloth so we keep ourselves hidden from the walkers outside. They might not have the best of vision but it doesn't mean they can't see shapes or shadows.

That brings me to what I'm doing right now. I finished up the final nail and took a step off the ladder, admiring my handy work. I let out a soft huff, "It may look a little rough but it'll do the job." I wiped my hands off on my jeans, ridding any sweat that may be left over from nailing up the sheets. I fold up the step ladder, carrying it back up the stairs to plop in the hallway closet. I pass by Megan who was reading through a history textbook that she took with her when everything first went to shit. She's alway been a bit of a history buff.

I walked back downstairs after my exhausting journey to return the step ladder to its original home. I took a seat on the spare bed, kicking back trying to relax my rigid mind. I try to keep myself busy the best that I can because I can't keep myself from reliving the past month on repeat every time I blink, sleep, or even take a pause to breathe.

After a little while of me trying to relax I heard the rustling of footsteps outside my door. I heard the tapping of fingers on the side of the wall as the door creaked open. I saw Megan peer in with a cronked ass smile on her face. She threw the door the rest of the way open and came walking in like a crab. "I've come to inform you that we are going out to look for sustenance. You may join us if you so please." She stated in a high pitched wavy voice. I started laughing my ass off and hopped off the bed.

I grabbed my rifle, throwing it over my shoulder. I then reached over and picked up my wooden baseball bat that my grandfather had given to be a few years back. I remodeled it with a nice touch of barbed wire. It made killing a lot more effective. She's my prized possession in all honesty. I laid her on the bed for a moment so I could throw on my jacket, gloves, bandana, sunglasses and shoes. I'm not really a fan of getting walker blood on me so I try to cover up as much as possible. It may get really hot out but it's the price you pay to try and rid your skin of rotten flesh.

Once I had everything thrown together I walked out with Megan to see Duane leaning over the body of what seemed to be an unconscious man and Morgan shooting a walker. He wasn't quite dressed appropriately for the end of the world but to each their own I guess. I came to the realization that this man wasn't just found knocked out but Duane had smacked him upside the face with a fucking shovel. Morgan had been pointing a gun at this poor man.

I walked over to the guy to get a better look at him. He was in a hospital gown, boxers, and a bandage was wrapped loosely around his waist. I looked over to Megan staring at the scene before her, pretty bewildered. I'm sure we shared the same expression as I lifted the guys arm up and threw it around my shoulder. I tried to straighten my body out the best I could to carry him inside. Megan ran over to help me pull him inside due to my struggle to carry him alone. Morgan followed close behind and his son trailing a bit farther back.
