Soon painters gave the two numbers. Donald was 9, and Douglas was 10. When the men left, the two engines were alone.

"Ye may notice, Douggie," Donald whispered, "That yon penters forgot something."

'Whut?" said Douglas

"They pented new nummers on us, but they dinne put names on uz." Donald said cheekily.

"Ye mean..." Douglas said

"Exactly," Donald chuckled, "Haud yer wheesht, here's the Inspector."

"Now you two," The Inspector said, "Here is Duck. He will show you around the yards before you start work."

The twins liked the work, and became friends with Duck. The trucks soon learned not to play tricks with the twins, as they would get a hard bump.

"We like it fine here," Donald said to Duck

"That's good," smiled Duck, "But watch out for Gordon, Henry, and James. They're sure to try nonsense."

"Dinna fash yerself," chuckled Douglas, "We'll settle them quickly."

Donald and Douglas had deep toned whistles, which Gordon, Henry, and James found funny. They laughed about it in the sheds

"They sound like buses!" chuckled Gordon

"Or ships," added Henry

"Tugboat Annie," laughed James, "Ha! Ha!"

Donald and Douglas slowly creeped up on them, one on each side.

"Ye wadnae be makkin' fun o' uz wad ye now?" Donald asked

The trio jumped. They glanced nervously at the twins.

"Er, no." Gordon stuttered

"Certainly not," Henry shaked

"No, no. never!" James said nervously

"Gud," Douglas angrily said, "An' keep et that way! Or elze ye buffers well be bashed en!"

And they did keep it that way.
