"So, did you put your name in?"
You rolled your eyes at your best friend, before hitting him on the shoulder with your Potions book. "You're hilarious Ced. Just because you put your name in, doesn't mean I have to put mine in too!" The truth was, you couldn't think of anything worse than battling Magical creatures and running around in a maze. Plus, the Tournament was cancelled in the past for a reason - someone had died.
"Typical." Cedric smirked, and you giggled.
You were in the courtyard and it was buzzing with students, exited about the Tri Wizard tournament. The Champions were going to be announced any day now.
You were in your 5th year, and he was your best friend.
Cedric stood up from the bench that you two were sitting on, and outstretched his hand, which you accepted. Linking with his arm, you picked up your battered leather book bag and slung it around your shoulder. "We should get to class, we don't want to be late for Snape."
-
The Potions lab was cold, to say the least. Ivy crept up the walls, as candles burnt - providing the room with the only source of light. Rows of leather bound books filled up the shelves, and stains from explosive experiments splattered the floor. Small bottles of Veritaserum cluttered the desks, along with vials of Polyjuice or Amortentia. Professor Snape didn't care about the appearance of his classroom. Everyone knew he wanted to be the Defense against the Dark Art teacher. Every year he tried to get the job, but every year he failed.
You and Cedric sat down at your usual desk, but before you could take out your books, you were greeted with the presence of a tall, 6"0 blonde boy dressed in Slytherin robes. "What do you want, Malfoy?" Cedric asked through gritted teeth. Him and Draco had been sworn enemies for as long as you could remember.
Ignoring Cedric, Draco turned his attention onto you. His icy grey eyes pierced yours, sending a shiver to shoot up your spine. "I expect you didn't put your name in the cup, Mudblood. Shame, how much I would've loved to see you drop dead out there."
Before you could reply, Cedric jumped out of his seat, grabbing his wand from his back pocket and pointed it at Draco's throat. His body shook in rage, muttering threats under his breath. Draco's smirk quickly disappeared as he looked at the chanting crowd which had formed around the table.
"Cedric, it's fine, I don't mind.." You spoke, but your voice sounded more like a whisper.
"No, It's not okay. This jerk needs to be put in his place." Cedric growled.
Whilst you two had been talking, Draco reached for his wand from his robe pocket, but before he could strike a curse a shrill voice pierced the air, turning the heavy chants into nothing.
"Mister Diggory, 50 points from HufflePuff. I'm sure Professor Sprout would love to hear what you're doing in my lessons. Mister Malfoy, sit down next to Miss Y/LN. I don't want either of you wasting any more time of my lesson or it'll be detention!" Snape bellowed.
You looked at Cedric with sorrowful eyes, as he met your gaze. His mouth parted, as if he was about to speak, but he picked up his bag and sat down across the room. You sigh as Draco sat next to you, burying your head into your arms as Snape began the lesson.
"Don't think I'm happy about this, Mudblood. I find you profoundly annoying." Draco smirked, looking at you, searching for a reaction. You turn your head and ignore him, picking up ingredients and crushing them in the cauldron.
Truth was, you had always found Draco Malfoy attractive. Ever since he had kissed you in your Third Year at Hogwarts, your crush had grown bigger and bigger for him. Now during the summer, puberty had blessed Draco and he returned back even more desirable than before.
"Y/N don't ignore me, I was only joking." Draco grabbed your wrists and turned you around, forcing you to look at him. Instead of snatching your hands away, you let his cool hands hold yours for a moment longer before a book was slammed down onto your desk, surprising you both.
"Mr Malfoy, Miss Y/LN Seeing as you find my class so boring, you two can stay after class and clean the floors." Snape spoke harshly.
You groaned and turned away from Draco, only to discover Cedric, gazing at you. He looked at you, his face filled with melancholic sadness. How long had he been watching? And why did he look so upset? But before you could study his expression any longer, he looked away.
For the rest of the lesson, you and Draco didn't exchange a word. Cedric ignored your whispers and didn't bother to open your notes. As Snape dismissed everyone, you walked over to the storage cupboard and picked up a sponge. The last thing you wanted was clean the floor, but you couldn't afford anymore trouble.
-
After three, long treacherous hours you were finally done. You walked into the Hufflepuff common room and saw Cedric on the sofa reading a book.
"You're still up?" Cedric turned to you and then closed his book.
"Yeah, I was waiting for you." Cedric smiled. You chose not to bring up his gaze from potions, and smiled back - flopping down onto the sofa next to him, and resting your head on his shoulder.
"Did you have fun?" He asked, combing his long fingers through your hair.
"Don't even talk about it Ced, it was awful. Draco left half way through." You moaned. Snape had come in and removed Draco from detention, clearly due to Lucius, Draco's father, making a few threatening letters.
"I'll beat him up again tomorrow, for you." He chuckled. You smiled and stifled a yawn.
"Let's get you to bed." Cedric said, before getting up and picking you up bridal style.
"I'm old enough to walk!" You whined as Cedric carried you up the stairs.
"Yeah yeah, you sure don't act like it." He chuckled and you playfully smacked his chest, but closed your eyes against his warmth.
Cedric placed you on your bed and you were already half asleep. He took off your shoes and then lifted the covers.
You were now fully asleep and Cedric smiled down at you. He brushed a strand of hair from your face and then leaned down and kissed you on the forehead.
He let it linger a little longer before pulling away and walking out of your dorm .
