"Goodbye Regulus, we will be expecting you at home for Christmas." Walburga Black and her husband Orion were standing with their son Regulus on platform 9 3/4.

"Of course mother. Well I think I should get on the train now. Goodbye mother, goodbye father." Regulus said as he look from his mom to his dad. Walburga gave him a swift hug then went back to standing as though she was a poll. Regulus expected his father to respond or at least nod his head as he normally did when saying goodbye but Orion was distracted glaring at people.

"The great wizarding world is being overrun by mudbloods." Orion was muttering to himself which he often did when he had a lot on his mind. Regulus did not want to disrupt his father so he boarded the train and went to find a compartment.

Regulus sat with a few of his dorm mates and his closest friend Timothy Prewett. Timothy and Regulus had been friends sense they had been born. They both came from very old pureblood familys so his mother was fine maybe even happy with their friendship.

"How was your summer Timothy?" Regulus asked. He was hoping the Prewetts didn't know about Sirius. Regulus had been forbidden to talk about his disowned brother who ran away during the summer.

"It was a nice break from school. How was yours Reggie?" Both Regulus and Timothy smiled at this. At home it was seen as almost criminal to use nicknames so hearing Reggie reminded him that he was free for the next few month.

"It was good Timmy. I spent ever free moment reading which started to annoy my parents but I kinda got a free pass this summer." Fuck Regulus thought to himself he knew that that would raise a few eyebrows but luckily Timmy didn't mention it. 'Maybe he just didn't notice.' Regulus thought as he glanced out the window.

The group went on talking about there summer but then one of the other Slytherins brought up James Potter.

"I heard he finally gave up on that Evans girl." One of the boys said. The compartment bust into laughter at these words. Everyone knew James Potter had been trying to get Lily Evans to go out with him sense the 1st day of school.

"No its true I was overheard Evans talking to one of her friends on the platform. She didn't get one letter from him all summer." At that the group jumped into theory's. They ended up agreeing that James either suddenly found a new love or more likely he was just trying to get Lily to put her guard down so he can attack her again.

By the time they finished talking about James and Lily the train was pulling up to the station.

As the people in the compartment walked out Timothy stopped Regulus for a moment and he was almost 100 percent sure why.

"My mom told me about Sirius but she said not to say anything about it in front of people. So what happened? Did you get punished? What did your parents do?" Regulus sighed he was correct.

"He left at the dead of night we don't know where to. My parents were furious the next morning. The first thing my mother did that morning was blast him off the wall. Then my parents became more strict sometimes but other times just not even seeming to remember I am alive." Regulus recited. He had went through what he would say a few times before leaving that morning. "We better get off the train." he added quickly as to cut off the subject.

Not all of it was a lie but the truth was he knew exactly where Sirius went he had left a note in his room saying he was running away to James' houses but Regulus had made sure his parents didn't see it.

Now that Timothy had brought up Sirius he was all Regulus thought about during the carriage ride. He wondered if he should have shown his parents the note but he knew that if he had he would be able to see the thestrals pulling the carriages.

Regulus was not paying attention during the sorting he was to busy thinking. Regulus had pushed his brother running away to the back of his mind all summer not letting himself think about it but all the questions he had when he first saw the letter came flooding back into his mind. 'Why did he decide this year to run away? He only had a few years of school left he could have just waited till after then marry whoever is parents wanted him to and be free.' The more Regulus thought about it the smarter it seemed to stay. Just last year Sirius had said how he didn't mind the whole arranged marriage thing and he never really liked any girls in the first place.

Regulus only realized the sorting was over when everything went quite. Dumbledore had started his speech.

Regulus tried to resist the urged to look at the Gryffindor table but it was to strong he scanned the Gryffindor table for his brother then he saw him. Sirius was looking straight at him. Sirius had a sad expression on his face almost as if he felt guilty. Regulus quickly looked away at back at the headmaster.

As Regulus ate the only thing he could thing he could think about was Sirius staring at him. 'Why did he have that look on his face.' He wanted to believe he just imagined it but he knew he hadn't. Regulus wanted to glance back and see if he was still staring but he resisted this time and as soon as the feast ended he ran straight to the Slytherin common room and into his dorm before plopping on the bed with a book to try and not remember what had happened.
