I woke up handcuffed to a medical bed in what seemed to be the infirmary.

"Damn." I groaned as I pulled on the cuffs.

Whichever new gas F.E.A.R used allowed me to retain some of my memories, but didn't bring back any of the old ones. I looked around, once again taking in my new surroundings. It looked like a classic infirmary; a bunch of beds laying next to each other, separated by only white curtains.

"Hello?" I called out, determined to find someone that could bring back my lost memories.

A girl around my age walked in my little bed area and asked a little too eagerly, "You're the new girl, huh? Why are you handcuffed to the bed?"

I looked at her for about five seconds, before responding, "I have a tendency to show F.E.A.R agents aggression."

She laughed, and it made me want to laugh as well. I giggled before saying, "Hi, my name is Adaria."

She grabbed my handcuffed hand and squeezed it, "Araya Vixen."

I studied her face, fascinated by it. She had dark caramel skin, with a handful of freckles decorating her cheeks. Her hair seemed like a giant cloud. It was dark brown, but slowly became a lighter color as her hair grew longer, which was just below shoulder length.

Her eyes were dark brown, and I giggled, "Everything about you is orange, huh?"

Araya's eyes widened, then she laughed, "Yeah, you could say that. I'm a Vixen, so I'm part fox." She walked over to a counter to my right and began preparing a syringe.

"Wow! So you're a Shifter, too?" I exclaimed.

She froze and the syringe clattered on the countertop. I raised the top part of my body as best I could so I could see what happened.

"Are you okay?" I asked, concerned.

Her voice was thick when she responded, "Y-yes, I'm fine. It's just..."

Araya took a deep breath before continuing. "Shifters killed my family."

I closed my eyes and looked away. Is that what I am? I thought, horrified, A monster?

I looked back at her as she walked over with the syringe in her hand and gave a sad smile. "It's fine. Almost all Shifters were captured shortly after their death. It was a terrible war."

My eyes widened and I blurted out, "I'm a Shifter!"

She gazed at me with sad eyes and said, "Yeah, I know. But if F.E.A.R let you attend their training school, you must be different from the rest."

I flinched as she inserted the syringe into the skin below my right bicep.

"This should return all of your memories." she informed me. "You'll be knocked out for a couple of hours, but should be ready to go shortly after you wake up."

I groaned. I hated the fact that I was going to be passed out again, but if it meant I would remember what happened the night F.E.A.R captured me, it would be worth it.

"Wait," I managed to mumble as my eyelids became heavier, "if you're not a Shifter, what are you?"

"I'm a close relative of Fauna-Faeries. My species is called Fauna." She told me while she held my hand. I squeezed it gratefully before my world faded to black once again.
