I nodded at Araya and Harper as we stood outside the classroom door, picking at my nails as I said, "Okay, I'm ready."
Harper grabbed and squeezed my hands, whispering as Araya opened the door, "You're gonna be great."
She then turned around and walked inside the classroom, and I promptly followed. The room I walked into seemed like one of the college classrooms my dad used to show me when he went to work. He was a professor at a local college, and would frequently take me to where he would teach and let me run around. The classroom seemed exactly like his, with the escalating rows of seats and the giant whiteboard, the only exception being this classroom was filled with other kids my age, the many paintings on the walls of tea parties from the 1800's, and the fact that the walls were made out of the same wood the grand ballroom was, and the designs in this room had had flare than usual. I let out a small sigh as I looked at the stained glass windows that were on either side of the room, some depicting roses and teacups, others depicting swans and lilacs.
"Ah, you're right on time, ladies." Said a middle aged woman with a smile. She had short curled brown hair, and muddy brown eyes, and she wore an outfit that was similar to our winter uniform, only hers had elegant dark blue dress pants and a dark grey cardigan.
Araya and Harper had somehow wandered behind me, and began to gently push me towards her.
"This is the new student we were telling you about, Mrs. Kalli." Harper said from behind me, and I tensed my legs against my roommates so that they bumped into me.
I curtsied and said with a small smile, "My name is Adaria Feur, a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Kalli."
Mrs. Kalli waved her hand at Harper and Araya, "Go sit down, darlings. I'm going to introduce Adaria to the class."
I whipped my head to shoot a pleading look to my roommates, but I only received a panicked look from Araya, and an encouraging look from Harper.
Mrs. Kalli brought me to the center of the room, right in front of her podium, and informed me in a lowered voice, "This class is a combination of tenth grade and eleventh grade. Unlike most schools, we go all the way up to thirteenth grade, so you still have a long way to go, since you're only in tenth."
I nodded, trying to soak in her information and calm my nerves at the same time.
She placed her hands on my shoulders and squeezed them, smiling at me one last time before turning to the class and calling out, "Okay, class! I would like to introduce our new student, so please quiet down!"
I quickly scanned the rows of seats, my panic rising as I realized that the seats next to Araya and Harper were already taken. I caught a quick glimpse of Beatrice, who was shooting me a death stare, and sighed with relief when I saw that all the seats around her were taken.
The class had already quieted down, and all eyes were on me as Mrs. Kalli said, "This is Adaria Feur, our newest student. I expect that all of you treat her with respect and kindness, or so help me I'll skin you and cook you in a stir fry."
This recieved a little laugh amongst the students, and she continued, "Now, if you have any questions for Adaria, I'm sure she'd be happy to take them."
I know that it might technically be impossible, but I was certain that my heart stopped for at least three seconds when she said that.
Several students' hands shot up, and Mrs. Kalli called out, "Okay, Jona, you can go first."
An older boy with a buzz cut stood up and asked, "How old are you?"
A couple of the students around him snickered, and I replied, "I am seventeen years old."
