Sonic P.O.V.
"Hey"
I heard a voice beside me that pulled me out of my thoughts, and looked to see Shadow standing beside the bench.
"What do you want?" I said coldly, looking away from him. I probably shouldn't have said it like that, but I was still mad at him from earlier.
"I just want to talk." He said sitting down next to me. I scooted away from him.
"About what?"
"...Prom."
"Oh, I bet all the girls want to go with you." I said with resentment and jealously. "What with you being so straight, and all."
"What?"
"I heard what you said to Scourge earlier. Don't try to play dumb with me."
"You sound like me being straight is a bad thing." And it was right then I knew: I had screwed up. I made up a quick lie so to not have him find out about my crush on him.
"Nah. I just feel bad for all those girls who you're going to turn down."
"How do you know I'm not going with anyone?"
"Are you going with anyone?"
"Good point." I was slightly sad about that, but I don't know why. I already knew he would never go with me.
"Oh look, my bus is here." I said with no enthusiasm as it turned the corner. It was one of those public transportation buses that led across the entire town. I walked up to it, but as I was right about to get on, I felt a hand grab mine. I turned back and saw Shadow holding it.
"Um, actually, Sonic." He said. I don't think he has ever actually said my name to my face before. He seemed to be gathering up his courage to say something. But what could he say to me that would need courage?
"Will you go to Prom with me?" Oh. That's what.
"I--uh--um-" I was flabbergasted, to say the least. This had to be a joke.
"Hurry it up! I don't got all day here!" The bus driver said as Shadow hand quickly slipped out of mine and he ran out of sight. I got on the bus, but couldn't stop thinking about what he had asked. I mean, who asks someone to the Prom just to run away without a response? This had to be a joke. Yet, no one would be that nervous, or serious for a joke. I was so confused. I tried to get my water out of my backpack, but something fell out of my hand. I picked it up, and it was a phone number. Shadow's. I stared at it for a while, then thought,
Do I text him? Do I tell him yes?
"Tell who?" I heard the lady beside me ask. I must have been speaking my thoughts out loud. Without even thinking about the fact that she was a complete stranger, I said,
"Shadow just asked me to the Prom, but I don't know if I should go with him."
"Do you want to go with him?" The lady asked.
"No! I mean, yes! I mean, I don't know...?" I said unsurely. "I just don't know what other people would think. And, I wouldn't have imagined he would want to go with me of all people. I don't even know if I have the strength to go with him!"
"Well then, we'll flip a coin." She said, very sure of herself.
"What? Why?"
"To help you decide. Heads, you go with this boy. Tails, you don't."
"Uhh, okay..." I said, still unsure about this whole situation. The lady took out a coin from her pocket and flipped it. Tails.
"Oh." I said sadly, still not sure why I was letting a coin flipping lady on a bus help me.
"So it's decided! You go with him."
"B-but, it landed on tails. You said-"
"I said the coin would help you decide. Not decide for you. Since you were sad that it landed on tails, that means you really do want to go with him."
"Oh. Wow. That's actually really smart." I chuckled a bit. "I guess now that I think about it, I do want to go with him. Thank you, random person on a bus."
"Hey, there's a lot you can learn from old ladies on buses. Now go knock 'em dead at your Prom." She said before getting off at her stop.

I rushed through the door of my house, and was greeted by my mother.
"What's with the rush, Sonic?" She said. I thought for a bit before saying,
"I need to text someone."
"Ooh, what's her name? Are you two, like, a thing?" I internally groaned. Of course my mother would spectate me of having a girlfriend, but what do I tell her?
Oh yeah, I do want to text the person I want to go to Prom with; but, is this a bad time to say that I'm gay?
I couldn't do that to her, it would break her heart.
Oh yeah, is this a bad time to say that my mother is very homophobic?
I know, not many options here. So, I just tell her whatever is going to make her the most happy.
"Uhh, I'd rather not say h-her name. But yes, she's my girlfriend." I don't know why I said that. I guess she'll learn the truth at the Prom, though. I should mention, she is the head of the fundraising committee for the Prom, so she will definitely be there, for better or worse.
"Ooh~" She said. I groaned externally this time. "Well, have fun with your girlfriend honey, just call if you need anything."
"Okay mom, thanks." I said, rushing upstairs before she could question me further. Now that that was over, I could finally text Shadow. I was reluctant to send a text at first, but after thinking about all that happened today, I was confident I was making the right choice. I typed the message and clicked send.
