There's nothing quite like the fast beating of your heart as you lead your boyfriend into battle. Guiding his x-wing as you talk over the comms, warning him to be careful, notifying him of an oncoming TIE fighter, Leia interrupting to warn him herself.

Except of course for when your heart still beats so quick, but this time in the knowledge he's on his way home. Safe. To you.
"Have you ever tried a jogan fruit?" He asks you through his earpiece, grinning from ear to ear at his victory. No losses, not one. The x-wing moves so silently without the panic of blasters oncoming and the shouts of his fellow pilots.

In the quiet of his victory, he'd much rather talk to you.

"Jogan... are those the purple ones?" You ask with your own sweet smile, leaning back in your chair and tapping desperately against your leg while you wait for his arrival.

You can't see him, but his voice, its warmness, the happiness it floods with, has you grinning like a school child on picture day as you stare up at a grey ceiling. You've never been so in love in your life.

"God, I could eat them forever. Haven't had one in years, I'd do anything for one right now. I bet it'd taste of victory."

You hum contentedly, barely thinking of the foreign fruit. The image of his curls bouncing above you fills up your mind. "If I ever have the chance I'll buy you a basket of them. Ripe as they can be."

"We're sharing." He grins, full of delight and picturing your face, too. "You haven't lived if you haven't tried one."

You hum, letting out a small, happy chuckle. "I can't remember the last time I tried something new. Food, hobbies, anything."

"I promise you," Poe speaks, keening his head back into his chair as he does so. "As soon as this is all over, we'll try everything. Go anywhere. There should be enough credits between us to buy a decent ship for two."

Maker, the idea gives you more butterflies than you care to admit. Having Poe when he was on base with you, calm nights in your bunk when neither of you could sleep and talking to him when his life was in danger- even that felt like the world to you at times.

Even elevating from those stolen glances across the cantina to a real, actual relationship while in the resistance- that felt like one in a million.

But the whole galaxy? Everything at your fingertips and Poe Dameron beside you? It's something you could only dream of, something you'd do almost anything to have.

"That sounds... nice. Perfect, wonderful." The words can barely leave your lips.

And there's a small silence before he replies.

"Where are you?" His grin shines through the comms, happiness flooding your system at it.

"You're here?"

"Yep. All in one piece, just for you."

"F- maker-" untangling yourself from your desk and chair while suddenly flustered has you tripping over yourself- rushing, simply, knowing he's so close by. All you want to do is run, find him. "I'm coming, I'm coming."

Dashing through the base, pushing through the small crowds cheering victory; it feels like seconds as you search for Poe.

You can hear his breathing, you know he's sprinting to find you too. And you smile, stupidly, as you try to find your stupidly perfect man in his orange flight suit.

... When you see him, you barely get a second to take in his appearance until you're swept up into his arms. A bright and bubbly rush as his touch finally meets yours.

It's warm and lovely, the honey of his voice dripping into your ear as his hands clutch around your back. You grip him just as tightly, breathing out in relief at the feel of him against you and your fingers on his collar.

"I love you, I love you, I love you." He whispers to you, trapped in his grasp but not even thinking of being anywhere else.

"Love you too, Dameron." You hum into his shoulder, lovingly inhaling the scent of oil and his sweat. "So much."

When you pull away, your hands slip right up under Poe's chin to just... look at him.

He's still smiling, eyes wide and looking into yours like they're the only thing he can see. Like you, most likely, are looking at him.

Words don't need to pass by either of you as you suddenly rush in for a kiss- messy and passionate, like your heart that just keeps thumping.

Crashing his lips against yours you couldn't think of anything sweeter, the feeling of finally once again kissing the man you adore with every cell of your heart.

His tongue so lazily swipes across your lip as you both spin on the spot, blindly pushing against a wall to ground the kiss between you. The force barely meets your shoulders, still focused on the feeling of your nails weakly scratching against whatever part of him you can grip- you feel euphoric.

It's a kiss that could last forever, and thank the maker you're in an empty corridor, humming at the feel of his hands moving across your back, hips, thighs.

When you finally pause, all hazy and dizzy from a kiss you'll relive for as long as you could, you once more hum into his warm embrace. His skin touching yours.

"Mm... Where will we go first?"

"When we leave?" You nod, lips smacked together. "Shit... You ever been to Yavin 4?"

"Your home?" You shake your head as a no, but flutter at the thought of Poe taking you to his own planet, his home- some that feels so intimate when you're used to living between bases and x-wings.

"I um," He pauses, looking down to his hand before gently clutching it to the edge of your shirt. "I always wanted to get married there."

Your own hand reaches down to his like an instinct, gripping onto his wrist and looking up to him, struck. You can't get in a word before he says- "W-would you?"

You bring his hand up to your cheek, and he meets the tears that threaten to spill down your face as you press into the palm of his hand.

You kiss him again. Softly, for just one moment.

"Of course I would. Yes, a million times over." You have to break off to say, words tumbling as you grin and hold onto his shoulders. "Me and you Poe, forever."

"Perfect." Eyes watering, he beams at you still, hands holding you tight in excitement.

Between smiles and crying eyes, he pushes you against the wall and meets your lips once again.
