Chapter Nine
NaomiLast night I got in contact with the World Security Council, and together we drafted the treaty the Nova Empire, and future allies of Earth, will sign. We're calling it the 'treaty of unity'. Every planet in the Nova Empire agreed to ally with Earth, and each planet's leader has signed the treaty. As soon as we return to Earth, the Skrulls and the Asgardians will sign as well, just to make things official. The Krylorians, Aakons, Hurctarians, A'askavariians, and Xeronians have all offered their assistance with the remaining repairs and relief programs we have going on on Earth, and they've offered to house any Skrulls who need it.
I would call this mission as success. Kieran tells me as much as we begin to pack our bags to return home to Earth.
"You were amazing, Princess, truly," Kieran says, already packed and ready to leave. She only brought an extra set of gear, some small daggers, and a sword sharpener. "I have no doubt more and more planets will align with Earth because of your efforts."
"I hope so." I'm still trying to fold all my clothes into my suitcase, which is proving to be difficult with the hologram projector I also have stuffed in here. Kieran notices my struggle and comes to my aid, pressing a notch I didn't see on the machine, making it shrink into a portable box. I smile at her in thanks.
I glance at her small bag currently strapped over her shoulder, curiosity prompting me to ask: "Did you leave many things behind in Hala? Personal items, a house? Is that all you brought?"
Kieran glances at the bag as well before answering: "I left in quite a hurry, so I only packed essential things. I did have an apartment on Hala, small, nothing extravagant. It was only a place for me to stay when I wasn't on missions, which wasn't very often. It was never home. My real home was my mother's house, but the Kree burned it to the ground after they murdered her," Kieran takes out her father's pocket watch from her pocket, gripping onto it tightly, just like I do with my parent's locket. "The real thing I regret leaving behind is my collection."
"Your collection?"
Kieran smiles widely, dimples and all. "Every time I went on a mission, I would bring back something from the place I visited, something unique. It was often a painting or a piece of jewelry or some kind of artifact. It gave me something to look forward to on missions, something else to focus on besides my orders. I also liked how having them made me feel; like I had my own little piece of life since I couldn't really live mine. Does that make sense?"
I nod. Oddly, I know exactly what she means. "When you've never had the luxury of having a normal life, you tend to appreciate the little things people take for granted. I lived in an abandoned building with Johnathon and Matthew for years before we turned it into the F.E.P base. We learned not to hold onto a lot of items, but the things we did hold onto were the stories our members would tell. Some were sad, some were happy, a lot were painful, but all of them gave us hope that we could have a life and give them back theirs one day."
Kieran smiles in understanding, true understanding. "If anyone deserves to have a life, it's you, Princess."
"So do you," I tell her, trying to focus on her bag instead of her enchanting amethyst eyes. "Have you worked out any arrangements on Earth? Like a place to stay? Or have you not decided if you're staying on Earth or not."
"I'm staying on Earth," She tells me assuringly. "I'm not welcome back on Hala, or any other planet as you've seen, but besides that being the case, I have grown quite fond of Earth. Director Roberts offered me a spot in the Avengers and gave me some time to think the offer over while on this mission. I'm going to accept."
