Chapter Three - Bad Foot Day

"Ow!", I complained for who-knows-how-many times, as I tripped and fell for who-knows-how-many times. Okay, that was redundant. But, who wouldn't lose her mind if she fell gazillion times from the bed, the chair, the stairs, and the sky. Now, the last one was made up, but it just felt like I fell from heaven and then got sipped into clouds then fell again. Now I know what it feels like to be rain water. Painful.

"That's not how you do it! To walk, you must step one foot, then step again, using the other foot.", Leila said while walking one step at a time. "Simple as that.", she added.

"Easy for you to say. You're human, of course it's easy.", I complained. Again. She just let the matter drop and let me rest for a while. We were practicing walking for two hours already, yet I didn't have any progress.

I sat on the edge of my bed and Leila settled herself beside me. "So, why did you wish to be human?", she asked out of the blue. I just stared at the wall in front of me then recalled my conversation with my dad.

"I don't know. I just...", I said then drifted my eyes to my neck, where a bluish pearl was dangling safely. I didn't know I was wearing it the whole time. "This pearl just brought me here." I continued pointing at the pendant hanging from my neck.

She looked at me quizically. "What do you mean?", she asked. I closed my eyes then pictured him inside my head. "Dad wanted me to find the rightful man for the throne and...", I opened my eyes and looked at Leila who was staring at me expectantly. I pointed my chest, "my heart."

"I was holding this pearl when dad told me about that marriage thing. My mind blacked out and I sort of panicked. And when I saw this in my hand, all I could think of was going to the human world.", I explained.

"Who's behind all that?", she asked again.

"Huh?", I asked in response.

"Who is behind that humongous sacrifice of losing your tail to go to the human world? I know someone's inside that heart of yours that you want to live your life forever with.", she said then nudged my arms softly with a cocky smile playing on her lips.

I chuckled a bit thinking she was insane. But I realized she was right. Maybe, just maybe, I still like him. That he's the reason of all this craziness I've put myself into. "I've a secret to tell you. And promise me you won't tell anyone about this.", I told her.

"Yeah. Sure. Pinky Promise?", she said then extended her pinky finger to me. I wrapped my own pinky around hers.

"So this is it. I liked a human before. He gave me this necklace on the day of my birthday and the day he left for Canada. I was devastated and I never liked anyone again. I kept reminding myself that I don't like him anymore. But he's still here, inside this pathetic heart of mine. His name is...", I said and wiped a tear that involuntarily fell from my eyes. "Brandon."

She stared at me. "So,   we currently are in Canada.", Leila said coolly. I was taken aback by what she said. I tried to stand up for no patent reason, but fell straight to the floor.
