Adora's POV
"Oh stop glaring at me, you're the one who got us in here" Adora snapped at a squinting catgirl.
"Yeah, well I didn't know I would be getting in trouble too!" Catra spat back.
They glared at each other and hmphed.
Crossing her arms, Catra turned the other way and slouched.
The two sat at desks in the detention room of Bright Moon High. Adora couldn't believe the nerve of Catra. She was so confusing, first inviting her to the dance, then getting her in detention? What did that mean?
Suddenly a little bouncy ball caught Adora's attention. It was rolling on the floor, about to hit Catra's sneaker lightly. Before it did, Adora jumped over and grabbed it, sending Catra shrieking.
"What was that for!?" Catra yelled, fur bristling.
"I saw this ball" Adora said dumbly.
"Yeah well, get away from me, your dumb hair poof is distracting me from this boredom"
Adora scoffed and retreated back to her seat. As usual the teacher barely batted an eye at her display. Catra groaned and muttered "Mrs perfect" under her breath.
Adora ignored her and examined the ball. It said "Mara" written in sharpie along the curves. This perked Adora's interest as she looked around to see if anyone locked gazes.
No one did anything that suggested the ball was theirs.
I wonder who or what Mara is
Without further thought she began to bounce the ball off the floor with force. Her brain was like this ball of energy and she needed to move all the time. This made her good at sports, not quiet time.
Catra was someone who always seemed to cross her mind lately. She had been acting really unstable. First being the badass who set off fireworks, then dark and cruel, then messing with her, then friendly, then back to being rude.
It was like she was trying to psyche Adora out. It was a big plan, she supposed.
Getting frustrated, Adora slammed the ball down with enough force to knock out a sumo wrestler and flinched when it knocked out a light.
"I didn't mean it!" She instantly blurted it, smiling in embarrassment.
The teacher looked up from his book and sighed.
"Apology accepted, this school is old enough as it is" he said with lack of interest and returned to his book.Adora watched the ball roll out the door and disappear in the hallway, never to be seen again. Some random kid would pick it up and question the Mara word for two seconds then chuck it.
"Um excuse me sir, detention dude, sorry. You're new, I don't know you yet, but is this your first time being detention monitor?" Adora blabbed. She couldn't help it, silence was uncomfortable.
"Yes. It is" the teacher groaned, annoyed to be disturbed.
"Oh nice, just checking. Um. What's your favorite cheese?"
Laughter erupted behind her making her blush in shame. Curse her stupid ADHD head. The most random things popped in. Lots of people called her a dumb jock for that, but no one knew how it felt to be the entertainment piece. Someone to laugh at.
That's why she was popular, she was entertainment. A show rolling 24/7, and as depressing as it was, it was just how her brain worked.
With a heavy sigh she stood to let the thoughts disintegrate.
