As you all start walking towards the parking lot, you can't help but think that there was more to the story. Why would eight hours simply amount to a simple crash? It was too easy. You glance around for the arrows, just to double check.
They're not pointing towards the car.
They're pointing away from the direction you're headed, traveling along the sidewalk and out of sight.
Sigh.
You stop, and call out to the two others.
"I don't think I should take the car back." You start, growing more and more worried.
"Why? Happy is driving."
"Alright, just... I think I'm gonna take the long way back to the tower. The arrows..."
Natasha nods, understanding what you mean. "I could use some exercise. Pepper, we'll see you back at the tower."
"Alright, just don't be out too long."
Natasha rolls her eyes, but starts walking anyway.
"Natasha, you don't have to come with me. It's probably fine in the car, I'm just being paranoid."
"No, you're not. You know the odds better than anybody. If you're unsure something is safe, or going to be safe for you, then I trust your feeling."
"Thanks. We better get going if we're going to get back before dinner though."
"What's during dinner?"
"No idea, but Tony said that something was happening."
She shakes her head at Tony's shenanigans. "Well, we better start going then." And with that, you and Natasha march back to the tower, for the few miles walk.
*
Not two minutes later, your phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Y/N! Are you ok? Where's Pepper?" Tony is shouting through the phone.
"What? Yes. I'm fine, Natasha's fine, and Pepper's heading back to the tower now. Nothing's happened."
A big sigh can be heard on the other side. "That's good. I saw the news, something about a chandelier?"
"Um- yeah. Eight hours of charge, and that happened. No one's hurt though."
"Good. Just double checking. Where are you now?"
"Natasha and I are walking back to the tower, Happy drove Pepper. She should be there soon."
"Okay. Good. I'm gonna call her up next, get back soon." With that, he hung up.
Natasha turned to you. "What was that about?"
"Tony's going crazy over the news about the chandelier. I told him we're all fine."
She hummed, as you resumed walking.
"So, I heard Steve apologized last night."
"Yeah, he did. I assume someone beat him into it?"
"No... of course not. I would never!" She mocked, stepping in time with you. You giggled at her answer, before growing serious.
"I had a question, but I want an honest answer."
"Alright, shoot." She said, her suspicions rising.
"Is the team afraid of me?"
She stopped, staring you straight in the eyes. "No. We don't fear you, your powers, or the universe. We respect you as a fellow teammate, and a friend. Everyone does, whether they admit it or ignore it, they do."
