Peter POV:
I did not want to believe she was gone. I had wrapped myself in a safety blanket, a reality in which she was still out there. The more I saw her, the more I was dragged back to the painful reality. The world in where she was meant to still be alive, she was dying there as well. I could not see the line between my pocket world, and the real world.
Even in the world that was meant to make me forget, I remembered. I sat there, rubbing my eyes, trying to see if she would appear. Then I felt a light touch on my shoulder. I looked up to see May. I looked at her, through my bloodshot eyes. Tears were still falling, as I looked at May as the realisation of what I feared and tried to forget was real hit me. She wiped the tears away and hugged me. "I know it's hard to come to terms with reality, but Mr Stark is right. It will get easier, if you let it." She smiled.
So, I did what Mr Stark said.
I got out of my bed, got washed and dressed, had something to eat and went for a walk. It was so refreshing. As soon as I stepped out, a cool breeze washed over me. I had not been out in days, weeks. It was like the wind blew away all my worries, doubts, and troubles. I wandered around Queens, and ended up outside the alley where I found Y/n. I wondered down the alley and stared down at the place she once laid. Flashbacks of her lifeless face flashes across my mind. Instead, I tried to think about the good times me and her had.
One thought came to mind. It was when me and her first met. We were 9 years old. The battle of New York had not happened yet. We were already halfway through the year and yet, we had a new student. Y/n Potts. She was sat all alone at recess, so I went over to her. We got to talking, and we sat there chatting there for the rest of break. As we got closer I winded up going round hers, only to find out she was the daughter of Tony Stark. I was a complete fumbled mess; I had always looked up to him with all his inventions and being Iron Man and all. Y/n grabbed my hand and lent in and whispered in my ear. " I've told him about how much you love science and his tech, he said he'd be happy to show around his workshop." She grinned. We spent the rest of the afternoon watching Mr Stark and helping around in the workshop. I smiled at the memory, knowing even though she is physically gone, I will always have her memory.
~Next week~
The following week, I decided I was ready to go back into school. I am sure everyone at this point knew she was gone. She was the daughter of one of the most famous man in America. As I walked my usual route to the bus stop, I instinctively stopped and pulled out my phone. I clicked on Y/n's contact. The last thing I had texted was:
~over text~
Are we still into study?
~off text~
And that was like 3 weeks ago. I put my phone away and walked to the bus stop. I was going to go to school, and everything would be normal again... wouldn't it?
I got off the bus and wondered down the crowded halls. As I walked down, the stares burn into me from all directions. I tugged at my bag strap uncomfortably and bowed my head as I reached my locker.
I closed my locker door, to find MJ standing behind it. I turned around to see Ned there as well. We all looked at each other, pain in our eyes. Ned wrapped me in a hug. "She's really gone?" He whispered. "I-I..." I had not said it aloud, I had come to terms with it mentally, but admitting it with my own words was harder. A hand pats my shoulder. "We miss her as well. It was hard on us too." As her words left her mouth, I realised something. "I'm sorry! How could I be so careless! I'm so sorry for not inviting you to the funeral..." I pulled out of Ned's grip and searched their faces for some sort of anger. All I saw was deep sadness. "That's ok. We don't need a funeral to say goodbye to our best friend." MJ stated. I nodded solemnly, unsure of what to say. An awkward silence fell over us. "Well, we better head off to class! What have you got?" Ned questioned. "I've got science." MJ stated bluntly. "Well then so do me and Peter, we're practically all in the same classes!"
Us three went about our day as normal as possible. It is a bit harder when everywhere you go you get pity stares and people offering their condolences. Half of the people had never exchanged a single glance at any of us in our lives. We were sat down at lunch when flash came over. "Shame about your little friend. But I guess that's what you get for being the daughter of Tony Stark!" He joked, obviously taunting us. Trying to get a reaction. And it worked. "How dare you talk about her like that! You have zero respect!" I shouted, causing a lot of head turning. "Wow! Hit a nerve in you Parker, huh? What is it matter to you anyway? Wait! Was she your girlfriend!" He started laughing, and soon did everyone else. I wanted to punch him so bad! But instead, I sat down, my ears turning pink form embarrassment.
I practically ran out of school, not saying goodbye or anything. I ran home. Past the bus. Past the spot I met Y/n for the bus. Past the crane where we would sit and watch the sunset. Past my apartment block. I only stopped when I reached the outside of the compound. I sat there, looking up at the towering block of concrete. I went up to the gate and pressed the button. "Voice activation required." Spoke the A.I named Friday. "Peter Parker." The small light that glowed red before, dinged then turned green. The big, metal gates slowly creeped open.
I stepped onto the path leading up to the compound. The sun had about set, but still leaving an orange glow to the place. I noticed a white glow coming from around the corner at the back of the compound. I wondered towards it. There was an arch of leaves, with yellow roses threaded into it. There were lights around the edges of the path going up to and through the arch. I walked through the arch. There were yellow dahlias, going into an Ombre of orange planted into long planters. I followed it all, and it led to a grey headstone. There were pictures attached to bunches of yellow roses, all of Y/n. It was Y/n's grave. In all the pictures she was laughing. Her smile was so precious. I picked up one. I single tear streamed down my face onto the picture. I heard gravel being trod on behind. I put the picture back, wiped my face and stood up. I turned around to leave when I saw Mr Stark holding a bunch of flowers, miss Potts by his side. "Kid?" Mr Stark whispered. I simply nodded. They both came up to me. "Um sorry to disturb you-" I was cut off when Ms Potts took my hand and placed the flowers Mr Stark was holding in mine. "You deserve to say goodbye properly." She smiled. I took the flowers and turned back around. I looked down at the mixture of single roses and bunches. Some fresh, some dying. They both came beside me and smiled reassuringly. I nodded. I bent down to put the flowers down. "Y/n. I miss you every day, but, I have finally come to terms with it. I will always have the memories of us to smile upon, I will never forget you." I placed down the flowers. " I love you." I whispered, quiet enough so that only I could hear.
