I scrunch my eyes against the sun as I wake up. I rub my eyes with my hand. It's too early. I was awoken by something...a loud something. I hear Sirius slam open the bedroom door. I sit up quickly and look at him. He's pale and shaking and...holding something. A something wrapped in blankets.

"Re-Remus." He sobs. "It's James and Lil-Lily. They're dead. This is little Harry." He sinks on to the bed. I relieve him of the baby. I pull back the blankets. A small baby with jet black hair, emerald green eyes and a lightning bolt shaped scar smiles up at me, reaching for my face.

"It was You-Know-Who." Sirius says quietly, tears streaming down his face. "He killed them and tried to kill Harry but couldn't. He's gone, Moony, You-Know-Who, I mean."

"Moo-Moo!" Harry cooes.

A tear slips out of my eye. I get up and sit next to him. I put my arm around him.

"Oh, Sirius." Our foreheads touch. "I'm so sorry."

Then, Sirius stands up abruptly. "I can go shopping for the little guy, if you can take care of him?" He asks pleadingly. I can tell he needs this.

I nod and Sirius disapparates away. I turn to Harry.

"Hey, buddy." I whisper. "I'm Moony."

"Moo-Moo!" Harry says again, reaching at my hair.

I chuckle. "Yes, Harry, that's right. Padfoot's just gone to get some things, Harry."

"Pa-foo!" He says. He tries to wiggles out of the blanket. I take him out of the blanket and put him on my hip and I walk into the kitchen.

"Let's see if we can find you something to eat."

I open the fridge. There is 5 bottles of beer, a half-eaten sandwich, 6 oranges, some condiments, some lettuce, a carrot, and a banana. I sigh. I take the banana and cut it up for Harry. He munches happily on a slice.

In a few hours, Sirius apparates back, bearing many bags. I set Harry on the floor of the living room and help Sirius. We set up a crib in the living room, a high chair in the kitchen and put away many, many things. Harry yawns. I put him to bed. The day really flew by. I change into my pajamas and slid into bed with Sirius. He's sitting up.

"Pads?" I ask. "Are you okay?"

He turns to me, shaking. "Remus, of course I'm not okay." He sobs. "My best friend just died." He burys his face in his hands. I touch his cheek and he looks at me. "Moons..."

I kiss him gently. "I love you, Sirius Black."

He winces. "Don't call me that." But he kisses me back. "I love you too, Moons."

"What are we going to do about little Harry?" I ask.

"We'll raise him." Sirius says. "Just like Lily and James would have."

A few weeks later, this turns out to harder than we expected.

"PA-FOO!" Harry wails at me. Sirius is at work. I bounce Harry on my hip.

"Harry!" I moan. "He's not here right now."

He sobs. I offer him a bottle of milk but he screams. "PA-FOO!"

I decide to draw him a bath. As the water fills up, I show him a rubber duck. "Look, Harry!" I say. I squeak the duck. "It's a duck!"

His little eyes widen. "Cack, cack!" He says, trying to immitate the duck.

I laugh. "Yes, Harry, that's right, quack quack."

"Rems!" I hear from the kitchen. "I'm home."

I turn off the water and run to him.

"Oh, Pads!" I sigh. "Thank god. He's been asking for you."

Sirius takes the baby.

"Well, then!" Sirius says. "I guess we should spend some time together."

"I drew him a bath." I say.

Sirius nods. "Okay." He walks away with Harry.

I sink onto the couch. I'm exhausted. I sigh. I pick up a book and start reading. Then, Sirius walks in.

"He's in the bath." He says. "Can we spend some time together?"

I let out a sigh of relief. "You have no idea how good that sounds."

He laughs. "Been a hard few weeks hasn't it."

"For more reasons than one." I relpy.

Sirius's expression changes.

"No, I didn't mean-"

"It's okay, Moons." He says, licking his lips. "It's okay."

"But just think!" I say. "We now have a baby of our own."

A tear falls down Sirius's cheek. "I guess so." He whispers.

I kiss him. "It's going to be okay, Sirius."

He chuckles. "I sure hope so, Rems."

I hug him. "Well, I know so."

"I guess so."

"We are going to be great parents." I say.

He grins. "I know."

The next week, we get Harry into a Muggle pre-school.

"What's the point of pre-school." Sirius complains one afternoon. "It's like, more school."

I laugh. "Well, that's the idea, Pads. Though it's more like day-care than anything."

He nods. "I guess so."

I kiss his cheek as I turn around, making soup for dinner.

"I miss him." Sirius says.

"Harry? He's only been gone for-"

"James."

"Oh." I slide into the chair next to him. "So do I, Pads."

He shakes his head. "No, he...he was like my brother." He starts crying. "His family was like my family."

"But I'm your family." I say. "Me and Harry."

"It was nice to have a bigger one." I sigh. "Not that I'm discounting you, Rems." He says quickly.

I smile sadly. "I know you aren't, Pads."

"I feel like it was my fault." He says.

"It wasn't." I say. "It was Peter's."

"We lost our entire childhood in one night, Remus." He says. "My whole life, gone. Execpt for you."

I squeeze my eyes shut. "Please don't remind me." I say softly.

"I know it's hard, Moony." He says. "Believe me, I know."

We sit in silence for a bit.

I check the clock. "Time to get Harry." I say. "Remember to apparate a few blocks away."

He kisses my cheek. "I know, love."

And he's gone.
