I am eating breakfast and the mail came. I'm expecting anything, but my owl comes down. I rip open the letter.

Dear Harry,

We are happy to hear that you are adjusting nicely. About Snape, he hated your father in school. Maybe that has something to do with it? Everything is good here.
Love from,
Moony and Padfoot

So Snape hated my father at Hogwarts. Yes, that would explain. I show Ron the letter. He furrows his eyebrows.

"Yeah..." He says, thinking. "Yeah, that would make sense."

I decide to write Malfoy about it later.

Soon, Ron and I head down to Potions. I sit down and don't make eye contact with Snape. Today, we have to make another potion. This time, I focus. I add the lionfish spines carefully. Ron accidentally drops the whole vial in there. I wince as the potion explodes. Snape clears his potion.

"A zero for you, Weasley." He says snidely.

"Sorry." I whisper to him.

I stopper my potion and bring it to the front. "Here, Professor."

"Thank you, Potter." He says harshly.

I walk away. Ron has to clean up his mess, so I walk alone. Then, I turn and see Malfoy.

"Hi, Potter." He says.

"Hi, Malfoy." I say. "I found why Snape hates me so much."

"Why?" He asks.

"He hated my father at school. At least, that what Moony and Padfoot said." I say.

He nods. "Yeah...that'll do it. He didn't know my parents at school."

I smile. "Lucky."

Malfoy smirks. "I dunno." He looks at his feet. "Congratulations on the Quidditch thing, by the way." He says.

I grin. "Thanks. It was your fault."

"You make that sound like a bad thing." He says.

"It's not." I reply.

"I know." He says.

"What class do you have now?" I query.

"I have Transfiguration." He answered. "You?"

"Same." I beam.

We sit next to each other, since Ron isn't here. Today, we are turning matches into needles.
Malfoy succeeds soon.

"Nice job." I sigh.

He frowns. "You'll get it soon." He assures me.

"I sure hope so."

And by the end of class, I do. Malfoy has Defense Against the Dark Arts and I have break. I head to the common room.

Ron trudges in. "He made me clean the whole room." He groans. "Sorry you were alone."

I blush. "I-it's fine." I correct myself.

"You wanna do something?" Ron asks.

"Sure." I say.

So, we sit and play chess. Ron loves chess. I like it okay, but I don't personally get why he loves it so much.

That night, I lay in bed. I stare at the ceiling. I can't sleep. I think about Malfoy. He was so encouraging. Why? He didn't seem very nice when I met him. Maybe I'll write Moony and Padfoot tomorrow...

The next morning, I wake up. I stretch and sit up in bed. I see a letter sitting on my bedside table.

Potter,

You can call me Draco, if you must, but only if I can call you Harry.
Draco Malfoy

I smile and write back.

Draco,

Of course you can call me Harry. I don't see why you haven't been this whole time.
Harry

I send it off with Merlin. Then, I get dressed and head to the great hall. I eat a quick breakfast then I go outside. It's a Saturday, so I walk around the lake. I sit in a tree. I look at the trunk. Five names are carved in it: Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, James Potter and Lily Evans. I smile. Those were my dad, my mom, Moony, Padfoot and their friend. I take my wand and shakily carve Harry Potter below all their names. Then, I see Draco walking past.

"Draco!" I call.

He turns and smiles. "Hey, Harry." He walks over.

"Wanna carve your name next to mine?" He asks. "My dad did it with his friends and my mom."

He grins. "Sure." He carves his name right next to mine. "It's kind of like your legacy, huh?"

I nod as I hop down from the tree. "I suppose so."

He smiles. I sit down against the tree and Draco sits next to me.

"It's a nice tree to carve names on." He says, breaking the silence.

I laugh. "I suppose it is, if there's such a thing."

I set my hand on the root of the tree. We sit in silence for a bit.

"If it weren't so cold, I'd suggest a swim." Draco says.

I smile. "Yeah, that'd be fun. What'd you wanna do instead?"

"I dunno." He says. "We could just sit."

I nod. "Okay."

Later, I sit in the common room with Ron, catching up on homework.

"How is it that's it's the first Saturday and we already have so much homework?" He asks

I laugh. "I dunno, Ron." I think about Draco. "How was your day?" I ask. "Mine was great."

"Mine too." Ron says. "I met that Hermione girl, she's so bossy."

I laugh. "I'm sure she is."
