The golden rays of sun glowing against the girl's eyes was all it took to wake her up. She flinched at the change of light, shielding her face from the source.

She rubbed her eyes, realizing she woke up on the cushions of an orange pull-out couch, the digital clock on the nightstand next to her reading 8:30 AM.

Nick was still deeply asleep, hugging tight on the pillow next to him lost in some sort of dream world of his own.

She reached her arms up to grab nothing, getting a good stretch before lifting herself up from the couch, her feet sinking in the soft padding.

Y/n scanned the room seeking out the thin keycard used to enter and exit their room, making sure her footsteps were light as possible navigating her way to grab it without awakening Nick and exiting the room letting the door close slowly to avoid making any noise.

As an act of gratitude to show her appreciation for the brunette who spent 12 hours to drive, she went to the lobby to claim their complementary free breakfast. For both her and Nick, she grabbed a large plateful of scrambled eggs, sausages, half a waffle and bacon. In a paper bag she carried oranges, apple juice and classic chocolate muffins.

She ascended up the elevator carefully balancing the food in her hands, tucking the bag under her arm to reach for the keycard and unlocking their hotel room door to be greeted to a now awoken Nick, rubbing his eyes as if he'd just woken up.

"Hey." She grinned, laying the plate down to the dark wood table sat against the tacky off-white wall of their room.

"Almost thought you left me there" he chuckled, letting himself stand and get a good stretch from being in a balled up position all night.

She took out a muffin from the paper bag and unfolded it's wrapping, "If you slept through checkout time, it'd be a different story."

"Hey I want food too." He reached his hand out, making a give me it motion with his fingers.

"Then grab a chair and sit down with me." She urged, letting herself fall onto the complimentary hardwood chair next to it's corresponding desk.

She laid out plastic plates, forks, and knives, dividing the meal equally for the two to share. "How'd you sleep?" Y/n asked before shoving waffle in her mouth.

He let out a long yawn before taking his place next to y/n, "Slept like an angel. Only change I'd make is for someone to fill in that empty space next to me on the bed."

"You're really trying this again" she said through a mouth full of syrup and waffle.

"I'm not trying anything. I'm implying that if the lovely ladies from room service needed some company..." he trailed off finishing his sentence midway before tossing a piece of bacon in his mouth.

She grimaced at the thought, "You're so creepy."

"Yeah, it's almost like you remind me every day." He sassed, before popping a sausage in his mouth. "When're we supposed to be out of here?"

"11 o'clock on the dot. How long is the remainder of the drive?"

"Maybe 9 hours but we should probably leave at 10:00, gives us some time to roam around or get comfy in our hotel."

She raised her eyebrows, "Hotel..? You already booked us one? Damn, Armstrong, should I be enticed?"

"Oh trust me, this trip will be exquisite, m'lady", he tipped an imaginary fedora... or maybe cowboy hat in this case.

The all-too-familiar feeling of being trapped within a set space having nothing to do but hear the same overplayed songs on the radio and watching the blur of scenery as it passed by you was easy for y/n to get used to.. especially since she had a friend the entire journey to keep her company.
