"I can fly," you said to everyone in the room. Your stomach dropped as you realized what you just said. They all just stared at you. You noticed Tony looking at you intently. You cursed yourself for revealing that to everyone right off the bat. Now they'll want to see it for themselves and you won't have any more time to practice.

"She has wings; why don't you show us, Feathers?" Tony said, ushering to you. You sighed, realizing you weren't going to be getting out of this easily. You took off the hoodie you had on, exposing the loose tank top you had on under. You slipped your wings out slowly and kept them close to you, careful not to hit anything, or anyone, with them. After they were extended to their full length, you warily looked around the room at everyone. Most of them looked shocked or excited, but you couldn't tell what Bucky thought. His eyes gave away no more emotion than his poker face.

Natasha got up from where she was sitting, acting as a wake-up call to the others. Everyone walked over to where you were standing, with the exception of Bucky, who looked back at his food and continued eating. "I truly have never seen anything like this," Vision said, reaching a hand out to your wing. "May I?" He asked. You nodded to him and with that everyone began to feel your wings.

"So you said you can fly with them, how does that work?" Clint asked you. Of course, he was interested in the logistics of your wings. Words poured out of you before you had a chance to even think about a response. "My bones are hollow, making my body a lot lighter and giving me more agility while flying. I have to eat a lot though, and my metabolism is exceptionally fast. I work almost just like a bird, I suppose," you shared. Where is this information coming from?  You asked yourself.

You happened to glance in Tony's direction and made eye contact. He cocked an eyebrow at you, clearly wondering the same thing you were. "Alright, kids, let's give the newbie some space," Tony said, trying to get between them and you. You folded your wings back in and he locked eyes with you. "You. Me. Lab. Now," he told you. You grabbed a poptart on your way through the kitchen towards his lab.

Inside, he was staring you down. "I-," you started. "Ah, ah, ah," he cut you off. "My turn. When did you figure out you could fly? I know I said I'd give you a few days but I wasn't expecting an answer within 24 hours!" He told you, pacing in front of you. "This is incredible! Wilson has his robotic wings, but you... You're a miracle," he said, looking at you. "Turn around, I want to see how they work," he said and you obediently turned around for him. He ran a finger along the side of one of your scabs. "So you can fold them in and out of your body, that's kind of weird, kid," he told you. "It's impressive though, if I didn't know you had wings I would never have been able to guess just by looking at you. How do you fit 12 feet of wings in there though?"

"I'm not sure, it doesn't make much sense to me, either," you responded. He continued to look at your back. "Can you bring 'em out for me, Feathers?" He asked and you slowly slid your wings out again. He watched intently as your full 12-foot wingspan extended. Tony tested a few things on your wings, including how strong they were. He had you hit him with your wings and he flew back a few feet before landing on his back. Almost immediately after he sat up and looked at you.

"Fury told me to assess you. You're in, Feathers," he told you. You smiled, your heart seemed like it was going to burst out of your chest with how happy you were to hear those words. "Thank you," you said nonchalantly, but Tony could see through you trying to bury your excitement. "I do expect you to show me your flying skills," He smirked and had you follow him back to the kitchen. A few hours had passed, and it was almost lunchtime.

"They'll all be flooding in here soon for lunch," Tony told you. Almost as if on cue, Clint and Nat wandered in followed by Wanda and Vision. A few minutes passed and Steve came in as well, without Bucky. You couldn't help but wonder where he was.

"Hey gang, welcome our newest Avenger!" Tony called out to everyone as they were putting together their lunches. They all dropped what they were doing to come over and congratulate you, and you were ecstatic. Here you were, in the middle of the Avengers in the Avengers compound after just finding out that you are one of them now!

Later that evening you were wandering around the compound by yourself. You happened to make your way to the training room where you heard the sounds of someone beating up a punching bag. Walking in slowly, you saw the glint of Bucky's metal arm as he threw it against the canvas. Blood dripped down his other hand and sweat flew from his brow. You walked over to him cautiously and tapped him on his flesh shoulder. He jumped and spun around, grabbing your arm in his metal one. After seeing it was just you, he relaxed slightly and let go. You rubbed your wrist where he had grabbed you.

"Jumpy much?" You laughed. He looked away. "Sorry..." he apologized, rubbing the back of his neck. "No, don't worry about it. I'm sorry I scared you," you responded and smiled at him. You knew all about his past, of course. You were a huge Marvel fan, and you've seen all the Captain America movies countless times. "Do you- do you wanna go for a walk?" You asked him. Maybe I can be a friend for him, help him out a little, you thought. He looked at you a little surprised. "Uh, sure. Let me get cleaned up first," he responded and walked over to the bathroom.

A few minutes later and he returned. Without saying anything, the two of you walked out of the training room and down the hall toward the exit. "Shall we?" You asked. He nodded and pushed the door open for you. You murmured a quick thank you before leading the way into the grass. The two of you walked around the compound together in the dark silence with only the crickets providing noise.

"Y/n, tell me something," he said, breaking the comforting silence. "Why is it I can't seem to figure you out?" He asked. You just shrugged in response. Might as well go along with it. "I could ask you the same thing, James Buchanan Barnes," you said after a minute. Shit, I said his full name. "You know my full name? How?" He asked. You raised your arm about to respond, but for once, no words came out. "Steve told you, didn't he," Bucky said. It was less of a question and more of a statement, so you nodded. After that, neither of you said much else.

Bucky led the way back to your room. "Goodnight, y/n," he told you as you slowly closed your door. You stood there for another moment, remembering every detail of your day. You sighed happily and flopped on your bed. "I hope this never ends," you said as you fell asleep.
