The promise of Death

Of a numbing night's billowing breath, there lingered a scent of Death.
Huddled I was with shallow breath, shadows looming with bated breath.
Quenched were cackling cries of my heart, drenched were my dying flames of fear-
for little lingered my mere morsels of Life, for Death's promise shall sear.
Beyond Life's cloak of ragged grey drear, thy calming cuts seemed near.
With thy daunting kiss looming near, thy haunting dove seemed dear.
Of cruel lies Life had bore, Death's dreary knock was what I adored.
Of lithe lores of lavish Life, Death's dance was what I always adored.

Of Life's icy étude of fraught, Death's solitude gave hope it wrought.
Though Life's praising hum of joy I sought, its beauty degrimed and rot.
With my lungs filling with fear, Death's blinding rays of light, my dear-
were wreaths of hope above and drear, for Life bequeathed me blear and mere.
As the dying sun reached thy seas of meek and mere, there gleamed my tear,
for whilst the sun shall rise as its gold shall smear, I shall sink, my dear,
for of enchanting folklore of luscious Life it shall ever implore,
Life's lies was all I could have bore whilst Death washed me on the silent ashore.

Upon Death's soft scent ashore,
I shall slumber for e'er more.
