the five teenagers walked along the road, countless sighs leaving their mouths as they forced themselves to take one step in front of the other. nobody said a word for a while as they were all very drained and near the verge of passing out.sierra stared straight ahead, wondering where it all wrong. this was supposed to be a good summer- well actually not that good. she wasnt expecting much from that broke ass camp but being there sounded ten times better than the situation they were in right now. and she couldnt help but wonder about her sister, she had no idea if she was alive or not and she didnt even want to think about it.
gabriel, who was holding her hand felt her tense up. he looked down at her to see her still staring ahead. he rubbed his thumb up and down her hand, an attempt to calm her down a bit. luckily, it worked.
her shoulder still looked pretty bad. fortunately she didnt get cut very deep but it still did a bit of damage. dariush definitely got it worse. the pain was making her feel dizzy as she stumbled a bit.
"hey, hold on a little longer, okay? we'll be there soon and you'll be okay. i promise." gabriel whispered, squeezing her hand. she looked up at him and hesitantly nodded, ignoring the fact that she could see 3 of him from the dizziness.
"that was really cool driving back there." alex started, looking over to zhenzhen. "i couldn't have done that."
zhenzhen scoffed, "you dont give yourself enough credit." she told him, lightly punching him on the arm. alex chuckled.
"im told girls find bravery attractive... i've never really had much of that."
sierra rolled her eyes. was he trying to make his move or what? she zoned out of the rest of their conversation.
"yo, look, look! jpl!" gabriel exclaimed, pointing in front of him. sierra looked up, sighing in relief.
"holy shit, thank god!" she yelled as the group began running to the building.
"oh wow. they're testing out plasma rockets!" alex exclaimed as they ran through the building.
"those things burn hotter than the surface of the sun."
dariush sighed, "look man, all we gotta do is get this key to dr. fielding then you can look at all the nerd porn you want."
gabriel was carful to guide sierra through the building without having her bump into or trip on anything. his gentle touch made her feel slightly better about the situation they were in. and thankfully, her dizziness was clearing up a bit.
the teens yelled for dr. fielding as they turned the corner, running all around the room looking for the man.
"over here!" zhenzhen yelled. they quickly scrambled to where zhenzhen was standing, and as if the situation couldn't get any worse, they found the man they were relying on to save the world sitting lifeless in his seat.
gabriel reached out and checked his pulse, only to pull his hand back in disappointment. "he's gone guys."
"but how?" alex asked, voicing the thoughts from sierra's head. if he was dead, how were they getting his messages?
their eyes trailed down to his hands dripping with blood, which trailed down further to see his blood dripping straight onto the button of the morse code machine.
