It had been a few weeks since the accident. The doctors were starting to have second thoughts about Romans condition. They said that new stress fractures had started to form around his spinel cord and it was affecting how oxygen reached his brain.

No one had the heart to tell Patton and Logan yet, not while there was still a chance.

"Thomas!" Patton gasped, jumping off the swings, "Can we get McDonald's!?"

Thomas smiled, "sure! Go tell your brother."

Patton smiled and ran off to the sandbox where Logan was building a castle.

"You spoil them too much." Virgil sighed.

"Well, with all that's going on they deserve to be spoiled." Thomas said.

Virgil went quiet for a moment.

"We still have to tell them..."

Thomas frowned, "I know."

"Thomas!" Logan ran up, "Patton said we're getting Mcdonald's!"

"Yeah yeah! I want ice cream!" Patton giggled.

"Okay okay!" Thomas laughed at the twins, "get in the car and we'll go."

"Race you Lo!" Patton laughed.

"Hey! No fair, you got a head start!" Logan gave chase.

"Be careful you two!" Thomas smiled after them.

As Thomas walked back to the car, his phone started ringing. It was the hospital.

"Hello?" Thomas answered the call.

"Hi, is this Virgil Sanders?"

"Uh... This is?" Thomas winced as Virgil sighed.

"We have some news on your husband..." The nurse continued.

"REMY!" Emile sobbed.

"You have to tell the kids now Thomas." Virgil said, "they're gonna hate us if we don't tell them!"

Thomas hung up, still in complete shock at what he was told.

"Thomas?" Patton asked, "Are you okay?"

Thomas gave the ten year old a smile, "I'm okay. We're gonna go to the hospital after Mcdonald's."

"Are we gonna see Dad?!" Patton gasped.

Thomas nodded and Patton ran back to his brother.

"Lo! Logan! We're gonna see Dad later!"

Slowly, Thomas made his way to the car. As he walked he realized just how beautiful of a day it was. The kind Roman loved. With the sky a bright, clear, blue and a small breeze to cut the warm sun.

One day he'd be out here again.
