Skylar
"Skylar! Can you get in here!"
Glenda's voice bellows through my intercom in my office and I glare at it wishing that my Kryptonian powers would kick in already and melt the bloody thing. This woman is the bane of my life and one of the reasons that keeps pushing me back into my photography. I've been a manager for a few of our sites for 5 years now and I take pride that my sites have the lowest complaints and doesn't have high staff turnovers. The Walter Foundation is one of the largest companies in finance and Bolton Walters himself is a self made Millionaire. What he's doing with this witch is beyond me. He's 51 and she's 28, I know we shouldn't judge but with an age difference like that of course you would think she's a gold digging bitch!'
"Please! Would it kill you to say please?"
I speak to the inanimate object next to me and imagine it agreeing with me and rolling it's eyes as well. I stand up and prepare myself for the battle that is Glenda. I fix my navy blue pencil skirt and my white blouse and walk out of my office and towards the Lion's den.
I have to walk past my best friend Jade who is also our receptionist. She's on the phone when I walk past but the look on my face told her exactly where I was headed and she rolled her eyes and motioned making a noose and hanging herself. I had to fight back a full on cackle as I neared Glenda's office.
Her door was open as usual because she loves to be a nosy bugger and always tries to tell Jade how to do her job. I stood at the entrance to her office and knocked for her attention. Without even looking up she motioned for me to enter with her finger. I walked in making faces at her and as soon as she made eye contact I plastered a smile on my face as fake as her fish lips.
"Morning Glenda, what can I help with today?"
She looks me up and down in disgust and then flicks her hair over her shoulder and proceeds to speak. You wouldn't think I was only 2 years younger than she is with how immature she can be sometimes.
She smirks at me as she opens up her trap. " I've enrolled you onto another course next week. It's 4 days long, so I expect you back to work on Friday. Bolton and I are taking a little break for a week and you'll be in charge, so try not to fuck this up."
I've always been told that my face gives me away every time and I know that Glenda is trying to get under my skin, so I try my best to smile and come off unbothered.
"Ok, no problem. Email me the details and I'll start having a read."
"Sure." Bitterness rolled off her tongue as her eyes bore into me probably wishing that i would just blow up into flames.
Obviously I haven't given her the reaction she was looking for as she gives me a quizzical look over her glasses. This is the 5th course she has booked me onto in the last 3 months and it seems as if she is trying to sabotage me or keep me from visiting my sites as often as I do. I just keep thinking that it's best for the company and the team I oversee. Just as she was about to say something Bolton makes us aware of his presence in the doorway.
"Good Morning, there's my two hardest workers!"
I almost scoff, clearly he can't be talking about Glenda. He claps and rubs his hands together walking towards me offering a hug. I don't hesitate. Bolton is like a father to me. I remember when I came in for the interview and got told that he himself was conducting the interviews. He said he wanted to know the type of people that he was hiring. I guess he missed the mark with his wife.
"Morning Mr. Walter, How are you?"
"I'm great Sky thank you and hey I told you no need to be so formal. Bolton is fine. Makes me feel really old when you call me Mr. Walters, that's my father."
