Harry's PoV -
Harry sullenly ate the banana that Hermione had brought out for him, glaring into the air as he imagined the endless ways that he could destroy Lavender and get away with it. He couldn't believe that she might have ruined any small chance that he might have had of ever finding his soulmate, and she'd done it in less than a day.
Just as he considered throwing her to the mermaids, his murderous thoughts were interrupted by Hagrid. He had, much to Harry's delight, been temporarily promoted to Head of Gryffindor by Professor McGonagall, as she had not wanted to appear biased as the Head Mistress.
Hagrid had thundered out of the hall upon seeing Hermione drag out the boys; he was understandably concerned as to what such actions meant, since this certainly wasn't the first occasion that Harry had been dragged away from a lard obsessive crowd, and it had never ended particularly well before.
"What 'er you three doing out 'ere? What 'ave you gotten yourself into this time?" Hagrid said, humour laced in his tone, but concern also noticable in the wrinkle between his eyebrows.
Harry promptly began to explain what had been happening to Hagrid, but within three seconds Ron had subtly elbowed him in the gut, winding him.
As Harry began coughing dramatically and hugging his ribcage, Ron stood in front of him, commanding Hagrid's attention, and began to explain the situation himself.
"Don't worry Hagrid, just some first years pining over Harry, it's been happening since we've arrived."
A false but convincing smile was plastered across Ron's face, and he spoke as though the conversation was coming to an end.
"Okay, but I'm taking my new job very seriously guys, so if somethin' is going on, you know you can tell me."
He patted Ron on the shoulder and ruffled Harry's (already very messy) hair.
"'ermione, I don't trust those two, but I know I can trust you to tell me if anything 'appens."
He then marched back into the hall to finish off his breakfast.
"Ron! What the hell was that for?" Harry's ribs were now sporting a mauve bruise.
"Sorry Harry, I forgot that you haven't been living in a witch household for the past 18 years. Thing is... you can't... or don't... like... okay so... Hagrid is part giant, got it," Harry nodded, and Ron continued, "Well, giants don't have soulmates, or not ones like us anyway... It's just... impolite you know? Hagrid would understand, but it's just one of those things that you don't talk about"
Harry seemed relieved that he had been elbowed quickly enough, "I guess that does make sense. It's crazy how I've been a wizard for so long and still can't fit in entirely comfortably."
Hermione nodded to herself, she hadn't known either, "Well now we have potions with Slughorn, so we'll have to talk about this again later."
They walked down to the potions corridor, where Slughorn taught, Ron had been dragging his feet across the ground and was evidently dreading the next 55 minutes.
The second that the trio stepped through the door, they were all met with stares, Neville, who was also in the lesson, still looked a little confused. Apparently nobody had updated him on the whole Lavender situation.
Trying to awkwardly find seats that positioned them out of Slughorn'd line of vision, Harry and Ron quickly sat themselves down at the back of the classroom in the corner.
They didn't hold any grudges against him, but he tended to get little obsessive at times, and Ron and Harry had some important business to discuss.
On the other hand, Hermione did not follow Ron and Harry. She instead made her way over to the opposite back corner of the room on the Slytherin side, and - much to Ron and Harry's surprise - seated herself beside Pansy Parkinson. The boys watched the pair briefly hug each other before sharing a textbook and paying attention to Slughorn's instructions.
