The Blind Vampire

Blind as a Bat chapter 8

A vampire scent is pungent and sickening. The smell over loads every other scent and can not be mask. No matter how much cologne or perfume one tries to wear. To a normal human a vampire just smells like they bathed in the fragrance but in reality it's a vampire. A human's sense of smell is not to keen to pick up the  other scents. But for us vampire's, we smell the rotting decay and fecal that tends to linger. No such way around or out of it. So way does he smell different?

I want to know who this vampire was.  Is he a vampire? I mean he smells like them but not as well. Vampire or not I can definitely feel the power radiating from him.

"Who are you?" I take a whiff to see if I can smell any thing else, but all I can seem to focus on is the daisy smell. And I know I need to stay in the present, of the here and now, but I just think of her.

Her beautiful smile, her long red hair that curled and shined in the sunlight. The way she caught everyone's attention with her grace.

"Strange to think that you would not recognize me brother," he stated so matter of factly. The way he said it makes it seem like we know each other. But I do not have a brother. I have not for a very long time. "It was not so long ago that we use to run these woods together."

It was my turn to be confused," Look I do not know who you are but you need to let that lady go and get off this land. You're crossing territories that you should not be in. I will let you leave unharmed if you go willingly. But," he snickered. This man really laughed at me. He is strong that I do know but there is power and then there is POWER. Which he does not have. So I know I can take him. Only thing in the way is Lily.

"Look little pesk, I came to tell you one thing and that is, you will pay for what you did. I will end you and everything you care about for taking her from me," what does he mean?

Now it was my turn to interrupt, " Look here, I do not know who you are or what you are raving about. But I was polite before and trying to give you a chance to get out of here scratch free but looks like that wont happen if you do not listen. Now let the lady go!"  By now my voice is deeper and my vampire instinct to kill is at a boiling point. Anything is going to set me off. I set closer to him to let him know I was not playing this game any longer.

I hear Lily yell when he throws her to the ground and the smack of her head hitting the log the was under her. I jump towards them and connect the base of my foot right into his sternum. "You just fucked up! There was no need to harm the lady now I'm going to kill you!" I stand tall and fangs drawn ready for a fight.

He smirks at me,"Now now pesk this will be over when I say, the fun is just beginning. I will make you wish you died that night too!" And with that he was gone. I take a few deep breaths and try to reign in the evil in me. So hard to do when he wants blood. 

Wait! I smell blood, the sweet smell of blood.  My canines entend and pierce my bottom lip. I just want to have a taste of that sweet blood.

I hear Lily groan and whimper. No Nathan, breath, concentrate! If she would not have done that just now. There is no saying what could have happened. I need to relax and breath for a minute. I inhale deeply and that's when I smell the blood again. Crap, Lily!

I crouch next to her, "Lily, can you hear me? " but she saying nothing. I start to tap her cheek but still nothing comes from her. "Lily. I need you to answer me please. Lily wake up. " I check for a pulse and it is there but it's going to fast. Shit! I think she hit heard head harder than I think.

I extend my canines and pierce the flesh on my skin and bring it to her lips. I give her just enough to warrant a groan from her. That's all I need for me know she is okay. I left her up and start the walk back to the house. Hopefully the next time she wakes we will have a better outcome.
