I was awakened by the door of the hotel room slamming shut and the lights flickering on at nine 'clock at night. Light engulfed the pale brown colored room and I sat up on the large bed under the white quilts. I turned around to see the displeased eyes of Sam who was glaring at me.

''Do you have something you want to tell me?'' he said gritting his teeth.

I let a breath of fresh air escape my mouth, ''I only wanted to get out for some fresh air, please don't be mad at me. I never had such freedom before, and I can be careless sometimes. I'm sorry,'' I said genuinely apologizing and dropping my head meaning every word I had said. I had never had such extensive freedom, and I didn't know how to restrain myself. Sam's facial expression relaxed, and he sat down on the bed and gently ran his warm hand across my face.

''I'm not mad at you, Blue Eyes. Hearing about your ventures today nearly gave me a heart attack, but I'm just happy you're okay,'' he said leaning in to give me a kiss on the cheek.

''I never imagined how much trouble you could cause for me and how far I'd be willing to go to protect you,'' he said rubbing his chin. ''Fighting my old flame Ashley, sneaking into confidential areas of the Research Institute, and brawling with gangs in the alley. Is there any other future plans of yours that I should prepare myself for?'' he asked jokingly.

''There is one,'' I said as I started unbuttoning his black vest.

''Really?'' he asked.

''Really.'' I replied.

The next day Sam had planned for us to spend the entire day together alone. No guards, no distractions, and no work. We had ridden in a carriage for several hours until we reached the outskirts of New York. We arrived at a large abandoned mansion with an intimidating tall iron gate that surrounded it. The mansion was white with mold and vines growing up the sides, and the walkway was hidden with unkempt grass, weeds, and wildflowers that covered the entire property. The mansion must have been vacant for at least a decade and it was a wonder no one had lauded or broken into it.

Sam dug into his black trousers and pulled out a key to open the gate. ''Are you ready?'' he asked.

''Yes,'' I said.

We carefully walked through the unkempt bushes of green until we made it to the safety of the dirty porch. ''Is this yours?'' I asked.

''Yes, it's where I grew up as a boy. You said you wanted to know more about me, I thought we'd start here,'' he said shoving a key into the large white door. It was budged, but with a few strong jolts by Sam, the door sprung free.

I was instantly greeted in the foyer by dust and cobwebs that irritated the follicles in my nose. I found myself clutching onto the strong arms of Sam until my sneezing episode subsided. Sam gave me a tour of the kitchen, parlor room, and other main parts of the house. We spent quite a bit of time in Sam's room as he reminisced and told me old stories of his childhood.

''It's just as I left it,'' he said as he walked over to the window and forced it up. ''Besides the wear and tear on the furniture and the dust'' he said running his finger through the film of dust on the dresser. I plopped down on the bed as he told me about his childhood, ''I moved to the outskirts of New York with my mother after leaving England'' he said.

''But why did you come to the United States with such a good reputation and rank in England Didn't your father have inheritance,'' I asked.

He cocked one head to the side and said, ''My father wasn't my actual father,'' he said scratching the back of his head uncomfortably. ''I am the bastard of my Father who was already married but I was still the rightful heir to the throne. Many people were not happy about a bastard taking to the throne and there was talks and plans of my murder. You can imagine that it was a very scary thing for me and my mother. My mother and my father decided it was best if we left the country for a while,'' he said cocking his head to one side.
