I waited for hour by the fireplace for Samuel to arrive home. I left my wet wild hair out to dry with my back turned towards the fire. I felt awkwardly calm and enraged at the same time. I didn't know what I was going to say or if I could even be brave enough to say it. I guess time would tell the actions of my future.
"She told me the truth, before I killed her. You lied to me about what happened that night between you and her" I said as he entered the polar. I had placed the tea down I was drinking by the table near fireplace. As I met his gaze, he looked at me as if he had just seen a ghost and all the blood seemed to drain from his face. He looked and smelled as if he had been through hell, but I had been through far worse.
"The truth?" he asked astounded.
"Yes," I said softly and shaking my head. "I can now see why she had such a vendetta against you.''
He let breath of air escape his mouth and sat at the end of the sofa not looking at me.
"I was a horrible person, I admit..." he hesitated. "I really did some soul searching and I've changed,'' he said guiltily.
"I promised I'd never hit a woman again once I met you," he said as he got up to caress my cheek.
I pushed his hand away, and yelled, "But you did! You didn't change. You hit her, she showed me her bruises!"
He looked at me appalled. He had never heard me raise my voice or rage in such manner. However, this man had betrayed me.
"Not to mention you were unfaithful to me as well. If I were her, who's to say I would seek vengeance as well after being held captive by some psychopath for four years" I screamed
Sam put his hand up in retreat and I stopped myself from say anything further.
''I thought we were passed that" he mumbled under his breath looking down at the floor and I could have swore I saw a tear drop from his eyes.
"I guess were not," I said quietly look down as well. The room fell quiet for a moment as we drowned in misery.
"I think I should go away for while..." he said.
"Where?" I asked
"France...I will work at St.Anges Hospital and seek spiritual counseling," he said softly as he wiped tears from his eyes.
"I thought you would protect me and never leave," I said looking at him with tears streaming down my face as well.
"I can't protect you, if I can't protect you from me,'' he said and reached for my hand. This time I did not pull away.
"I spent nearly a few months in France aiding to the sick and getting counseling from Father Grithen, after Selena's disappearance," he said.
"I'm in deep need of finding myself again," he said
"You'd be gone for nearly a year! What about me, the baby! Us!" I screamed as I pulled both hands away from him looking deep into his green eyes.
"I have faith you will be fine. After today, you proved your much stronger than anyone I've ever met. Including me," he said looking down before gaining the courage to grab both of my hands again.
"I love you for it," he said as he tightened his grip around my hands so I couldn't pull away.
I hated that I still loved him, even after everything he had done. He was still a good man. I stubbornly pulled away and ran away to our bedroom and blew the candle. I didn't bother to change my dirty clothes, but instead flopped on the bed and drained my emotions on the pillow.
