"Names?" A security guard said upon their entry.
"Uh, we're—"
"You're here! Perdita said, smiling at them."
She spoke quickly to the bodyguard in Vlatavan and he nodded and let them all through.
"Perdita, we have bad news," Dick said.
"I know about Vertigo," she replied calmly.
They all looked shocked.
"Batman came to me and told me in advance, I have it handled, but enjoy yourselves at the party!" She said happily, walking away to speak to someone else.
Zatanna: I don't know about you guys but to me that seemed...
Artemis: Sketchy as hell?
Zatanna: Not the way I would have put it, but yeah.
Dick: And when did Batman join FedEx? He is not the type to fly all over the world to 'inform people in advance'.
Kaldur: Keep an eye out team, something's not right here.
Wally: Will do.
A waiter came round with a glass of champagne.
"None for me, thanks," Artemis smiled kindly.
Wally on the other hand, picked a glass up eagerly, just to hear Dick's voice in his ear.
KF, I wouldn't do that if I were you.
Wally sighed in frustration and put the glass down.
"Would you like to dance m'lady?" Wally said, extending an arm.
Artemis smiled and took it as they danced together.
Dick: Remember, keep focus on the mission, not the alcohol.
Wally sighed. Dick was so predictable. Always putting the mission first, just like Batman.
On the other side of the hall, Zatanna was standing with M'gann and Conner.
She could feel some familiar presence, but it was vague and difficult to home in on.
"Ooh, I love this song, let's dance!" M'gann suddenly said to Conner, as he looked back and mouthed 'help'.
Zatanna laughed as she watched M'gann drag Conner out to the dance floor.
A waiter came round with a tray of red glasses.
"Ooh, mocktail, don't mind if I do," Zatanna said.
She took a sip of the cranberry mocktail and leaned back against the wall.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey," she smiled back.
"Look, I was thinking," he said.
Her heartbeat quickened.
"Yes?" She replied. She had waited for this moment for months, they had kissed at the beginning of the Year after they saved the Justice league but hadn't really talked about what they were.
"This whole thing about Perdita seems off. I think we should investigate," he said.
"Of course you do," she muttered exasperated.
"Huh?"
"I mean yeah, that's a great idea," she replied quickly.
"Okay, so—" Dick paused. "Are You okay?" He asked.
"You look a little red. Let me take you outside."
She nodded and walked outside.
Artemis: I've got eyes on Vertigo, he just slipped out of the Hall to go upstairs.
Conner: how did we not see him before?
Kaldur: I do not know, but Artemis and Wally you need to follow him.
Artemis: On it.
Wally: Let's go.
M'gann: What happened to Recon Only?
Conner: since when do we do Recon Only? The missions always start that way. At this point it's not an order, but more of a— a vague guideline.
Just as they got outside, Zatanna collapsed in his arms.
"Zatanna? Zatanna!" Dick cried.
