Later that night, Alexis got a text from Ricky. She ignored it and shut her phone off.
The ride home with Ava had been annoying. Both Josh and Jessie were there, complaining that they had to drive so far. Alexis had to pull herself together quickly so that they wouldn't see her crying, but as soon as she got dropped off at home she went in her room and sobbed on the floor.
The next morning both Ricky and Big Red asked if she was going to drive to school with them. She ignored them both, and looked out her window waiting for Ricky to leave before she went outside and started her Volvo.
She was going to be late and wouldn't have time to warm it up, so she just went right into the freezing car. Why was no one going to tell her that Utah's winters got so cold?
It didn't make a difference to her. She had always been cold lately.
Alexis wasn't going to lie to herself. She knew she was relapsing. After months of being okay, she was starting to lose herself again. But she didn't want to be sent away again. Or to be treated like a psych patient. So she ignored it.
Once she arrived to school, she wasn't paying attention as she walked to her locker and there he was, right in front of it, waiting for her.
Her breath caught in her throat once she saw him.
"Hey," he said quietly. "I was worried about you. You didn't answer my texts."
"S-sorry," she stuttered. "My phone was off." There was a pause, and Alexis opened her locker and put her things away. "Um, it hurt my head. Like the brightness and the noise and stuff. I had a migraine."
"Oh," said Ricky. And then after another pause, "are you sure this isn't... are you sure this isn't about whats going on with Nini and I? Well, I mean, there's, there's nothing going on with us. Yesterday was just weird."
Alexis shook her head and slammed the locker shut. "No. Of course not."
She began to walk away angrily, but he followed. "Well, it kinda seems like it is."
"Why would it be?" She replied rudely as she started up the stairs to her first class.
"Because as soon as you saw us you got upset and left. And now that I'm bringing it up you're all attitude-y."
"I'm not," she insisted, breathing heavily.
"Why are you so out of breath?" Ricky questioned.
