You knew of Severus's love for Lily, of course you did. No matter how much you loved Severus, he could never know. Being one of his first and only friends, you knew how guilty it'd make him feel if he were to know how you felt about him and he could not reciprocate the feelings. And so you never told him, hoping the way you felt would just stop someday.
