I felt a sudden surge of heat flash on to my skin and then an alarm obnoxiously went off pounding against my ear drums.
I rubbed my eyes open to see bright orange flames erupting from the kitchen.
I scrambled to my feet to help prevent the whole cabin from being set on fire. Dream finally found the fire extinguisher and put it out.
"Well that was a close one," he joked and then erupted with laughter. Without his mask on you could see the enjoyment plastered on his face as he laughed unconditionally. The sound of his laugh was so high pitched and barely an audible noise which only made him laugh harder.
I have never witnessed him laugh out of pure happiness, usually his laugh was as a result of a sardonic comment.
I just stood there in awe as my mental picture of him changed. He looked so normal, his eyes full of joy like magically the pain he saw through them disappeared.
"Oh come on now. (Y/n) it was funny I was trying to bake you a cake because the wedding planners were complaining that you never even tried the one they got made for us. I guess I kind of forgot I didn't know how to bake," he said in response to my still body which was still shocked by his new demeanor.
I looked around the kitchen and saw it was an absolute mess. There were mixes of ingredients that didn't even belong in a cake. I saw the oven was filled with a burnt and charred mess of food. My eyes glanced over to the jar of flour sitting on the dirty counter.
I went over to it and grabbed a handful of it in my hand and threw it at Dream's face. "That is for scaring me half to death."
His face was covered in the white dust and he coughed bringing some of the substance out into the air like little clouds.
He stared at me with no expression on his face. Until a few moments later he shook his head so most of the flour fell off of his face.
His lips curled upwards and he exploded with laughter. "Oh you are dead."
He went over to the sugar and dumped it all over the clothes I was wearing. He snickered at my shocked face.
Suddenly we were just throwing every ingredient we could find at each other. Neither of us could aim that well due to laughing so much it made us weak. I am sure the whole forest could hear the sound of us rejoicing in the simple form of fun.
"Truce?" I offered to him in the midst of the fighting.
"Truce," he replied, offering out his hand.
I remember the last time he offered his hand for me to shake was when I first met him. I very bluntly rejected his hand then but now it was not the same. I wouldn't say we are friends but possibly something close to that.
I went over to shake his hand until I felt his other hand crack an egg on top of my head.
His familiar laugh echoed throughout the cabin.
I used my hand to try and wipe off the yolk of the egg out of my hair.
Dream started to back away from me, expecting for me to get him back for the mess he had just made in my hair and he wasn't wrong for thinking that.
I run for him right as he slips on some of the ingredients that were left on the floor.
His back crashes on the wood and while my momentum is still going I couldn't stop myself from falling with him.
My stomach lands on top of his and my head lands right underneath his chin. His body saving me from a crashing blow.
I could hear him sniff the air. "Your hair smells like an egg."
I laughed at his seemingly unfunny joke. I haven't felt this happy in a long time, just doing something normal has washed away the things that have made me an unbearable mess.
"I have never been so glad that someone almost started a forest fire," I half joked.
I got up from being on the floor and he followed pursuit.
He went over to my hair and pulled out something and flung it across the room. "Egg shell."
I stared at him for a while longer. I traced his face with my eyes and they fell towards his lips. The ones only a few days earlier I had felt on my own and all over my neck.
I was selfish then, I wanted to kiss him to forget everything troubling me. Now I don't think I would consider taking advantage of it in that way.
He coughed forcing my mind back to reality. "We should probably clean off."
"Okay where is the shower?" I looked around the quaint place not remembering if I even saw a shower in the bathroom.
"We have a lake."
