Link couldn't look at the Castle, and the stone monuments of the Champions didn't make it any better. Every time he so much as glanced towards the tall, looming structure he felt as if he was being crushed by the guilt of 100 years ago.
They didn't deserve this, any of this. Urbosa would've continued being an amazing Guerdo chief, Mipha would be able to see her family again, Daruk would've been free to eat all the rock roasts he wants,,,and Revali would be able to teach his skills to someone, never to be forgotten. Mabey they would've gotten married, had children, and lived happily ever after.
A small part of him always knew this would happen, that he'd screw up so royally as to cause the death of those he loved so dearly. Theres nothing he was able to do, and yet to think he lived longer than all of them? Its simply asinine. Zelda practically threw him to the side once they completed their duties, having a kingdom to run and all.
Set with a new resolve, he marked multiple points along the map, wrote letters to his current friends, and made sure someone would care for Epona.
First on his list: silent princesses for Mipha. He traveled to the nearest Great Fairy Fountain and gathered two of the flowers. Next up, Electric Staffana for Urbosa seeing as yellow was her favorite color. He had to go to the East Barrens, rounded up the flowers and prepared for the next stop.
To the north of Woodland Stable he found a patch of blue nightshade, complete with some magic to make it fireproof and the favorite flower of Daruk. His second to last stop was for Revali, in which he found some Swift Violets, he loved them for their vibrant color and the rush they give him.
Now for his final stop in preparation for whats to come, Korok forest. He gave the Great Deku Tree a sad smile, telling him he wouldn't need the sword where he's going. Before the confused tree could utter a word, Link disolved in blue strings of light.
___Links whole body felt like it was on fire, his ears ringing as the Golden Lynel got another swing at his body. After dropping the flowers off at their respective statues, he head directly to the sighting in Fort Hateno. It felt fitting, he nearly lost his life here once before, therfore it should be the place he dies once again.
He thought back to a week ago, when he gave Yunboo, Teba, Riju, and Sidon the fallen champions weapons without anyone batting an eye. He smiled, staring up at the moon peeking behind the cloud as his vision started fading, he felt calm; ready to face the people he loves the most.
Link died alone that night, it was Teba who found him the following morning. Teba at first thought he was sleeping, then he noticed the blood. Oh dear Hylia, blood was everywhere. Yet despite the blood, the young boy looked peaceful. It was then Teba realized how young Link was, only 17.
Teba shot back to the village, filling in Kaneli and grabbing people to recover Links body. No one mentioned the tears, screams, and pleas of the new champions. They begged for it to be a trick, a cruel prank. They didn't mention how Queen Zelda shut herself in her room, refusing to eat. No one mentioned how cries of friends and strangers alike cried on the streets of New Hyrule.
That day Hyrule greived for their Hero, never letting him be truly forgotten.Fin
Well, that was fun to write. This is a oneshot but I could continue it to Links adventures with the champions in the afterlife if anyone would like. For now, goodbye! Take care of yourself and remember that if no one else, I care about you! My DM's are always open!!
