×Chapter Sixteen×
×Getaway To Canada×

The night was quiet, the only sound being the roar of an engine being brought to life as the car prepared to leave a small, isolated gas station. Matthew and Ivan passed down snacks to the other occupants in the car, not a single noise made. They, excluding Gilbert, didn't know if it was because Roderich was still unconscious or if it's because no words were to be said. They were to wait until morning arrives and get new passports and Lars ha found someone who makes fake IDs. Then in the afternoon, they would drive to the border and finally start anew at Toronto, Canada. They agreed to al get jobs in order to sustain a somewhat decent life. It was going to be rough but why isnt it for them?

But the silence bothered Matthew greatly and he was concerned for his boyfriend. ilbert had remained silent for nearly 6 hours and his grip on the wheel tightened ever so greatly. He shared a look with the others and Ludwig ave him a nod, signalling for him to speak.

"G-gilbert?" was his broken whisper, fingers dancing with each other. Said teen hummed lowly as response and Matthew knew he had to choose his words wisely or an possible argument may break out.

"How are you doing?" whispered Matthew, looking at Gilbert with concern and love. Gilbert refused to gaze into those lilac hues, knowing he would end up pouring his heart out. He couldn't.

"Just leave me alone." and that ended the conversation. They all dreaded the car ride to Albany, New York.

...

Roderich groaned quietly, a raging headache appearing as he forced his eyelids open. He noted he was in Lars van and it was stopped. Grunting, h turned his head to to hiss as a bright ray of sunshine blinded him and worsened his headache.

"Ah comrade Roderich, you're awake now, da? Good, we stopped off at another gas stop because SOMEONE just had to drink a whole two liter of Pepsi" Ivan's thick accented voice surprisingly soothed Roderich, who nodded a confirmation.

"Shut up you Russian scheisse!" Gilbert's voice came somewhere from outside.

"I-ivan, where are we?" Roderich feared the answer, especially when Ivan sighed and he took a step back. Sleep deprived bags were now noticeable since he wasn't standing in the shade, his eyes glossed over  with emotions.

"Albany, New York. We just have to get some things before leaving to Canada. Matvey is so happy we're going to the big city-" "Wait, New York?! We went back...god vat were you guys thinking?!" Roderich was full on having a panic attack, and Ivan calle over Ludwig who ran to his brother's aid. Ludwig hesistately wrapped his arms around Roderich's smaller body, blocking him from any passbyers.

"Round up ze others" Ivan nodded and took off into the small store. Less than a minute later, Matthew and Lars emerge, both holding plastic bags for sure filled with roadtrip snacks.

"Hey Roderich, it's okay. We're going to be fine. Lars switched the license plate number with another valid one some guy gave him" Matthew says. running a soft hand through the boy's hair. Roderich nodded, calming himself down when he caught sight of Lars. The Dutch teen gave him a soft, loving smile before turning around to mask his face with that stoic expression of his. He was barking orders at Gilbert, who was whining as he was told to do something. It wasn't until five minutes later that they left the 5th gas station they stopped by at.
