×Chapter Fourteen×
×The Adventure of Starting Anew×

Silence was heard over both lines until a choked exhale relieved Gilbert that his boyfriend has not fainted or was caught. He knew what he said seemed frenzied and all but it was the truth. Staying in this craphole wasn't gonna help them heal, wasn't gonna help them become successful. They're broken families brought them down and now it's up to them to climb right out and fight for what is theirs. He waited another minute before a low curse made his smile wide.

"Gilbert, what do you mean we're going on an adventure?" Matthew questions, his once depressed tone now full of seriousness. Gilbert sighed and tsked at his boyfriend, as if what he said previously was the simplest thing in the world to understand.

"Liebe, do I have to spell it out? You know how we have that jar, with ze saved money and all"

"...yes"

"Okay, so we're going to use zat money to get out of here! Maybe travel, I don't know. Just pack whatever you need and I'll text you when I'm outside. Trust me, Birdie, everything is going to be alright. Oh, and if you were wondering, by we, I mean Lars, Ivan, Luddy, Roddy, and of course us two!" Before Matthew can breath out another question, the call ended. With a huff, he sat on his bed but the small smile he tried holding back tugged at his lips. Was this what he really wanted? To start over with the ones that he actually deemed to be his true family. Would...would his own family realize he's gone in the morning? Would they send search teams for him?

The accurate answer was not something he can search for in his mind. Maybe was all he could come up with and it made his heart break all over again.

"They don't care about you, Matthew. They never loved you. Just wait, Gilbert and the others would betray you soon"

Matthew shook away the intruding thought, narrowing his eyes as he stared at his reflection from the window. Hair messy and complex paler, eyes red and puffy, a sick red flush tainting his skin. He had worst days, so all there was for him was to write a short letter and wait for the text that would change his life.

...

"When did you get the letter?" Lars says behind the blunt he was smoking, secretly watching the way Roderich bent down to grab a plastic bag filled with clothes or health products. Gilbert was oblivious to it though, instead he had his own issues.

"Just opened it after calling Mattie. Fuck...how can I be so reckless?" Gilbert growled, delivering a swift kick at the wall he was leaning against. Lars moved his gaze from his friend's brother to said friend.

"Gil, what you did wasn't reckless or anything'. The damn officials are what the problem is. You had many people on your side but they chose to ignore the poor once more. Well, fuck 'em. By the time they barge on in here, we'll all be gone without a single trace left behind" Gilbert smiles sadly at the speech, patting the Dutch teen on the back.

"Yeah, you're right. Danke Abel" Lars scoffed, a playful smirk on curling around the shrinking blunt.

"I'm always right. Now let's help out your kiddos, Ivan is probably freaking Ludwig out" Lars jokes. Gilbert laughed before walking off to help out his siblings, giving a small thanks to Ivan. Lars watched them interact before shaking his head and helping out. But he froze when he felt his phone buzzing like a bee, fishing it out of his pocket and putting it on silent. The flashing of his mother's name caused him to scowl. He didn't need her to interfere furthermore in his life. When the call ended, it began again, and Lars answered and growled into the phone.

"Wat in hemelsnaam wil je??" (What the hell do you want?)

"Abel! Where are you?" his mother said in a fake scolding voice. She was most likely with those snobby friends of her's.

"None of your fuckin' business, so can you kindly leave me alone?" Lars grumbled, knowing that with his vulgar, he would sure get slapped. And her hits hurt like a bitch.

"I don't have time for this, Abel..."

"Well that's going to be solved real quick. Goodbye, bitch!"

"Abel you are so de-" Lars hung up, solving his phone back into his pocket and running a saky hand through his hair. He flinched when a soft hand touched his forearm. He looked down and forced a smug smile, only to get a disapproving frown.

"Lars? Are you alright?" Roderich asks, removing his hand and Lars suddenly wanted the younger male to touch him again.

"Yeah, just my mother. It's fine, let's just get to work" Lars moves past Roderich, who stepped away and watched him leave. He looked down at his worn out shoes (which he managed to sew back together any flaying parts) with a sad smile. He didn't know what was going on with Gilbert and the sudden moving thing, but he wanted to get to the bottom of it. With renewed courage, he joined in once more, grabbing a lighter box and carrying it to the van Lars clearly stole from his sister's boyfriend.

...

Matthew looked at his window, trembling as many thoughts raced through his already broken mind. He knew the others have been waiting for him, the text unread but seen when the notification popped up. With a small sigh, he climbed out his window and made his way to the van the matched the description Gilbert gave him. His small steps becoming bigger until he was off into a sprint. Free... I'm free, he thought, laughing breathlessly. Gilbert got out of the passenger seat and held open the door, a handsome grin on his pale lips.

"Ladies first" he joked, getting a light smack on the head. Matthew murmured a small apology after getting into the car, only to get that annoying yet comforting laugh as a response.

"Still the same Birdie, I see" Gibert whispers into his ear. Matthew shivered at the warm breath tickling his neck, leaning closer to his boyfriend.

"Alright lovebirds, are we ready?" Lars cuts in, turning back on the car. Matthew and the other, excluding Gilbert and Lars, all wore nervous expressions but  quiet "ja" from Ludwig was the consent. They were off in the moonless night, beginning their adventure.
