- Chapter 23
Last time on Run Away, Kurt, Juniper and Sebastian have to get to the airport so they can make it on time for Rachel and Blaine's debut show. Blaine is freaking out and thinks he will fail so Kurt tells him to look at him when he thinks he is going to freak out. After the show Kurt gets called by Elliot to congratulate him on his fashion shows and Blaine on his debut. Blaine and Kurt get back together not much later. That's what you missed on Run Away.
Blaine walks into the empty theater, just about three months ago he had his debut on that big stage. Now he stands there every night. Rachel had texted Blaine to come to the theater for an extra rehearsal. So he got dressed and went to the theater. But there is nobody now, the theater is filled with darkness, that's besides the fire exit lights that were always on. Blaine grabs his phone to call Rachel when a light suddenly lights up above the stage. Blaine walked closer to the stage but saw nobody on it. 'Boo,' a familiar voice says behind Blaine. 'Kurt! You scared me,' Blaine turns around to hug his boyfriend, 'What is all of this about?' Kurt smiles and takes Blaine's hand.
'Today one year ago i walked into a classroom. In that classroom I corrected someone on their knowledge about Journey, i spent three years with a journey obsessed glee club teacher so i knew a lot about them. I knew who this boy was that I had corrected. How could I forget who the boy who had had a thing for during sophomore year. I had seen him before, handsome, popular, head of Ohio's most famous glee club. God, I had this major crush on him and he always looked so kind to me. And then I had class with him. And not just one, I had a whole bunch of classes with him, but his friend, he hated me. But somehow faith brought me and him together anyways,' Kurt says with a big smile, 'Faith decided to get me drunk and say stupid things, i think i said stupid things but i'll never know since the boy in fact didn't tell me.' Blaine laughs, 'You didn't say anything stupid, but i still don't get what all this is about.' 'Just wait, okay? So faith brought me and him together anyway,' Kurt starts talking again but Blaine interrupts him, 'If this is some sort of proposal, the answer is yes.' Kurt chuckles but shakes his head, 'What my Long story was going to end on was, happy one-year-knowing-each-other anniversary!' Kurt says enthusiastic and Blaine smiles. 'I didn't realise it has been so long already, but tell me more about that boy you had a thing for,' Blaine says with a smirk. 'Sophomore year, Finn and Rachel were seniors, we made it through sectionals, then through regionals and we made it to nationals. There we saw the Dalton Academy Warblers, and they had this crazy handsome soloist, we did defeat them though. We came in first, Finn liked to say that it was because of my duet with Noah, while those Warblers came in second place. We then defeated them at regionals again next year,' Kurt says. 'You guys really were so good, i agree with what Finn said, you two sounded amazing together,' Blaine laughs.
'What song did you do, i can't remember?' Blaine tries to act confused, they have been walking around the theater for a while now. 'I know what you are trying to do, but I swore I'd never sing that song again if it wasn't with Noah. But, I already had some other song prepared.' Blaine and Kurt had made their way onto the stage while they were talking and Kurt makes Blaine sit down on a picnic table Blaine had been sitting on every night during his show. 'Just sit down and listen,' Kurt grabs the microphone in his hands and his voice starts echoing through the theater, 'Driving through clouds, singing like a hummingbird. I don't wanna say goodbye, I just wanna stay all night. Inside the crashing waves, sleeping like grizzly bears. I don't wanna take it slow, I just wanna dance all night. Take me back in time, to when I listened to sublime. Missing everything, I'm coming home. To California our worries make no sense. Colors are sky blue, singing in my view. To California where people make freedom. Colors are sky blue, singing to my view. Peaceful melody, take it in your destiny. Maybe we won't make it far so enjoy it while it lasts. Living in the moment. Life is more than small things, you know? Starting bonfires on the beach with the sun going down, chilling with the friends that always got my back.' Blaine looks at Kurt in awe. They had always sang this song together when they did karaoke nights with their friends. All he can do right now is admire Kurt while he is singing. His aquarius blue eyes shined bright in the stage light and his hair looked even brighter. Blaine had always dreamed of this, a happy life with the boy of his dreams and a show on Broadway. He would marry Kurt right on the spot if he could. It has only been a year since they met, but it felt like a lifetime ago.
As Kurt stops singing Blaine gets up and grabs him by his waist and pulls him closer. 'Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain, I leave my heart open but it stays right there empty for days. She told me in the morning, she doesn't feel the same about us in her bones. It seems to me that when i die, these words will be written on my stone. And I'll be gone, gone tonight. The ground beneath is open wide. The way that I have been holding on to tight, with nothing in between. The story of my life, I take her home. I travel night to keep her warm and time. Is frozen, the story of, the story of, the story of, the story of my life, I give her hope. I spend her love until she's broken inside.' Kurt giggles as Blaine sings to him just inches away from his face. He cuts off Blaine's singing by kissing him passionately. 'I also let you finish your song,' Blaine pouts jokingly. 'In my defence, I wasn't that close to your face when I was singing. And I definitely didn't look that hot,' Kurt says laughing. 'Are you coming to tonight's show again?' Blaine asks. Kurt had been coming to a show every two weeks to support Blaine. 'I can't tonight,' Kurt pouts, 'I promised Elliot I'd hang out with him.' Blaine smiles, knowing how much Kurt has been looking forward to hanging with Elliot.
After a while Kurt and Blaine are sitting one the stage and sharing stories about their past relationships. 'I dated Sam for a while,' Blaine says and he receives a shocked face from Kurt. 'I thought he was straight?' Kurt laughs. 'You never saw him in high school, he was this straight A's student and he got a scholarship for Dalton. But he was very much gay, we dated from Freshman to Junior year,' Blaine laughs along with Blaine. 'This one time Karofsky was being a bitch to me again, and I quoted Mean by Taylor Swift to him and he went "did you just quote Taylor Swift to me'' with a super confused face,' Kurt bursts even more into laughing thinking back about it. 'Have you ever broken out in song to him? Because I definitely did that with Sam multiple times,' Blaine laughs. He feels so happy. On that big stage but for once not to perform but just to spend time with the love of his life. 'God you're so gorgeous,' Blaine suddenly says. 'That came out of nowhere,' Kurt says, clearly blushing. 'It came out of nowhere because I didn't mean to say that out loud,' Blaine giggles. Kurt sighs deeply, 'Did you expect any of this to happen just a year ago?' 'I couldn't have dreamed of it,' Blaine says, 'It's like you can read my mind. I was just thinking about how happy I am right now, with all of this.' Kurt quickly pressed a kiss onto Blaine's lips before jumping up. 'We should get going, it is almost five and we have a dinner reservation in forty minutes,' Kurt smirks as he pulls Blaine up. 'Where?' Blaine asks. 'You'll see.'
'Last time we were here,' Blaine starts talking as he sees what restaurant they're approaching. 'Last time we were here you broke up with me,' Kurt finishes what Blaine had wanted to say. 'But only happy memories from now on,' Kurt smiles. 'Is that Santana?' Blaine says pointing at a table a few tables away from theirs. 'And Brittany?' Kurt says, confusion in his voice, 'Brittany was in my class, she had to do over her senior year but i never knew she was coming to New York,' Kurt says. 'Kurt! My unicorn!' The girls had noticed them too and Brittany came walking over to them. 'Britt, i missed you so much how are you,' Kurt says, hugging Brittany. 'I'm doing great, I met this really cool girl when I was getting some food for Lord Tubbington. You should meet her. Santana come here,' Brittany says with a smile. 'Sup, Lady Hummel,' Santana smiles before turning to Brittany, 'I know Kurt already, he is dating my best friend.' 'You have a boyfriend, my unicorn? When do i get to meet him,' Brittany says oblivious as always. 'Hey I'm Blaine, Kurt's boyfriend,' Blaine says laughing softly. 'He's cool,' Brittany whispers to Kurt, 'And his gel smells nice.' 'I know right,' Kurt giggles. 'Tana, can i talk to you real quick?' Kurt asks and Santana nods before they walk away from Blaine and Brittany. 'Please take good care of Britt. You usually are this savage bitch kind of girl but I'm convinced you have a nice side, please be nice for her,' Kurt says. 'Don't worry Lady Hummel, I'll be nice for her. I can see you really care about her and so do i.'
