Emlyn couldn't sleep .

She had been awake staring at the cream white ceiling of the bedroom , for how long , she didn't know . The other girls in the room where already asleep and the only sound she could hear was their faint breathing and the rustle of bedsheets . The blanket of moonlight spreading throughout the room allowed her to survey the other beds .

The room was small , far to small to hold this many beds .

She wished that things were different . That she , Connor , Delphine and everyone in the orphanage didn't have to live here . She wished that they all had a loving family willing to adopt them , especially young Delphine who lived here from birth and never knew the love of a mother or father .

She sighed .... if only .

Her eyes landed on a sleeping Delphine , the little girl was clutching tightly to her giraffe stuffed animal that she held with her when she was dropped off at the orphanage .

The toy was layered in dust and food stains that were never washed off . She refused to have it washed because it had her parents on it , and if they did , it would erase her only memory of them .

Emlyn smiled and slowly walked over to the sleeping girl . She leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead . Anne stirred and clutched the toy tightly . If only .

She walked over to the large bedroom windows and looked out onto the vacant street . The black streets glowed orange from the overhead street lamps . The buildings across the streets were gloomy , dark shadows danced along the brick . She looked through one of the windows and saw darkness , no sign of life seemed to be present in the building . She had always wondered what it had been used for , probably an office building belonging to a company .

She looked up to the moon , it was a full moon , half the moon was hidden behind another building , but if she tilted her head far enough she could see it . Like every other day , there weren't many stars in the sky , she'd seen pictures of places where the sky was a vast blanket of them. She grinned then walked away from the window , not turning away for a second . She saw Connor standing beside her bed .

As she walked further from the window a moving figure caught the corner of her eye . She ran to the window and waited for a sign that she was just imagining it . Connor ran to it as well .

The figure flew past again .

It was a silhouette against the moon , it looked to be a female . Her hair was long reaching the middle of her back , she wore a lose dress that swept past , blown away by the wind . She couldn't blink , her breath stopped as she stared in surprise and fascination . What was that ?

Connor gave her a shrug and quickly snuck out the door . She ran to her bed and dove inside the covers .

Was that an Alien . But aliens aren't real . If they're not real then what was that ?

She shut her eyes in an attempt to slow down her racing heart .

Maybe she was seeing things , she did have a questionably wild imagination . All she needed was sleep and she'd be fine .

As fine as one could possibly get knowing they'd remain pent up inside this wicked place for three more years .

She sung these words to herself until she slipped into a deep slumber .

☁︎ ☁︎ ☁︎

"W-where am I? " Emlyn groaned . She lifted her arms to tend to her throbbing head but she realized her hands where restrained behind her back .
