Chapter 6: The smell of death

"2000 years ago to be exact , ...

...2000 ago we all lived among one another , all five factions , the wolves, the fae, the vampires, the sorcerer's and the humans. One time a catastrophic war broke out between factions killing almost 5 000 people . This chaos resulted in the rise of five leaders―one for each faction― they rose up and created a council of beings of the supernatural ."

"The wolfs live in packs , in a hierarchical system of Alpha , Beta and Omega , they were gifted with speed , super senses and sharp canines to rip they're pray."

"About 3000 years ago the sorcerer's came to a disagreement and the faction leader decided to split them into three sub categories , witches , wizards and warlocks ."

"They were gifted with the power of gods , every witch and wizard held an object to siphon their powers , every witch and wizards magic holds an individual colour , the warlocks specialized in ancient dark magic which was long forgotten overtime ."

"The elves live in covens , they are split into two categories faeries and elves, although they are still considered one group. They both posses elemental magic , both hold ears that shoot up in a sharp angle and pale skin , but the faeries are small creatures and reside in the trees of Humming Forest , only coming out at night ."

"The elves are a crossbreed of fae and human, but the fae blood wasn't diluted so they weren't considered half humans, they hold the powers of the faeries and the normal height of the humans."

"Through the years , the humans forgot we existed and we became nothing more than a folktale used in children's books , everyone decided it best that we not remind the humans of our existence . Till this day  all members of each factions go out of their way to ensure they don't cross paths , we can never forget 2000 years worth of history after all. Humming Forest is one of the only places where all factions are allowed." Vanina finished and took in a deep breath .

The room stood still , Emlyn and Connor remained silent . Connor's mouth hung slightly open allowing shallow breaths to escape , he pushed his glasses higher up his nose .

"What was the disagreement about?" Emlyn asked .

She shrugged , "Something about a plant."

"How are we, what we are ?" Connor asked .

"Well we're all half breeds , one of our parents were supernatural folk and decided to get together with a "special human" that carries the genetic mutation we all have ."

"Why did they take us, what did we see ?" He asked .

"They didn't take you because of what you saw, it's because we're the only half breeds in the world ." She replied .

"The only ones?" Emlyn asked in shock. "How?"

"It's treason to be romantically involved with a human, especially ones with the genetic mutation, that's why there's only 3 of us ."

"What happened to your parents?" Emlyn asked .

Vanina began to answer but Connor couldn't hear her answer .

A soft scraping noise caught his attention , his eyes travelled along the dark ocean blue walls of Emlyn's bedroom , the sound seemed to bounce from one wall to another in a rhythmic pattern North... East... West... South... ; North... East... West... South .

"Shh wait , guys listen!" Connors voice came out as a harsh whisper and the two girls voices lowered to complete silence .

 Emlyn turned to him and shook her head , "Hear what?"
