The fire crackled next to where me and Hermione were sitting in the Common Room, it's sound being slightly drowned out by the many conversations from other students. A burnt orange woolly blanket was draped over mine and Hermione's legs adding to the warmth that the fire brought. Harry lay on the couch opposite us with the Golden Egg he acquired from the last task on his chest; he starred longingly at the ground clearly lost in thought.
Excitement could be heard from a small group of Fifth Year girls as they circled a dark-haired female who was holding a large letter. From afar it was clear they were persuading her to open it, her face a picture of anticipation. She carefully opened the red envelope and suddenly out popped pink heart-shaped confetti and heart-shaped bubbles.
She had received a Yule Ball Proposal.
Me and Hermione smiled at each other and her as the giver of the letter walked over and gave her a hug. It was lovely to see the excitement the ball was bringing.
"It's official you know." Hermione said quietly as I leant in to hear her speak, "Viktor asked me to the Yule Ball." I gasped in response, wanting to celebrate for her however she signalled to keep quiet as Harry was quite close to us. "The boys don't know me and Viktor have been...hanging out." She explained.
"When did he ask?" I questioned curiously.
"Yesterday afternoon in the library. It was quite adorable actually. He kept persuading me to read this certain book which I thought was quite strange as I usually recommended what to read, but when I opened it he had charmed the first page to say 'Hermione Granger would you go to the Yule Ball with me." She recalled, a massive smile across her face.
"Mione that's so sweet, I can't wait to see how gorgeous you are going to look."
She smiled in response and went back to reading her book, her face still a picture of joy as she seemed to continue to recollect the details in her mind.
Hearing and seeing these Yule Ball Proposals were fascinating and exciting however they left a bit of fear in the bottom of my stomach. Draco hadn't mentioned anything about the dance and I knew for certain we would go together, I just hoped we could at least converse about the topic.
"It's alright Ron. It's ok Ron." Chorused a few voices as people started walking into the Common Room. Me and Hermione shot up from the couch in concern as we saw Ginny and a few others leading a very shocked Ron through the room.
"What happened to you?" Harry asked as we all walked over to where they seated Ron.
"He just asked Fleur Delacour out" Ginny answered.
"What!" Me and Hermione said in unison as we kneeled down next to Ron. His face had lost all it's colour as though he had seen a ghost; mind you that wasn't really a scary sight round here.
"What did she say?" I asked. Ron shook his head in clear upset and embarrassment.
"Don't tell me she said yes." Hermione exclaimed, her hands over her mouth.
"Don't be silly. Of course she didn't" Ron managed to finally say, "There she was, walking by. You know how I like it when they walk. I couldn't help it, it just slipped out."
"It was more like you screamed at her." Ginny added.
"What did you do then?" Questioned Harry.
"What was I meant to do? I ran for it. I'm not cut out for this Harry." Ron said, upset laced in his voice.
Poor Ronald.

"So I walked out. Wait till my father hears about how these pathetic teachers think I would be good at taking Muggle studies as another option for my OWLS." Draco complained as his face screwed up while we walked side by side in the large corridor.
