"Alastor Moody." Said the new professor who stood in front of a large blackboard and started to write on it, "Ex-Auror, Ministry malcontent and your new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. I'm here because Dumbledore asked me end of story. Any questions?"

The whole class stared up at him with poker faces. He did not seem like someone to mess with. I had sat on a row near the middle of the class ready to learn until Draco had sat behind me. He had thrown many paper airplanes my way before the lesson had started.

"When it comes to the Dark Arts," he continued, "I believe in a practical approach. But first, which one for you can tell me how many Unforgivable curses there are?"

"Three sir." Hermione answered, her voice slightly wavering.

"And they are so named?"

"Because they are unforgivable, the use of any one of them will-"

"Earn you a one way ticket to Azkaban, correct. Now you need to know what you are up against, you need to be prepared. You need to find another place to put your chewing gum besides the underside of your desk Mr Finnigan!"

Everyone spun around to look at Seamus who presented an annoyed expression. He started muttering something until Professor Moody threw his chalk, causing everyone in the middle and far row to duck.

"Which curse should we see first? Weasley! Stand up and tell me one."

Ron's body slightly shook as he stood, trying not to make direct eye contact with Moody "My father has told me one, The Imperius Curse."

"Yes, let's show you."

Moody walked over to a collection of jars, all different shapes and sizes. He opened a large circular one which contents couldn't be seen until he issued the spell Engorgio. A spider-like insect with a beetle-like body could be seen and as he put the curse on it, he flew it across the classroom.

At first it was silent, until he started placing it on people's heads and hands. The class erupted in laughs as he dangled it above Ron. The creature was then placed on my hand causing my face to screw up as I tried not to scream. Draco found this the most amusing out of everyone, earning Moody placing it right on his face. Everyone cheered as Draco screeched, begging Goyle to take it off him.

Best part of the lesson.

"Talented isn't she?" Moody said, "Why don't I make her jump out the window? Or drown herself?" The whole class fell silent again as we processed the seriousness of what this curse could do in the hands of the wrong person.

As Moody spoke to Neville about the next curse, I turned around to face Malfoy. He tried to straighten his tie and act like he wasn't embarrassed as he looked around pretending nothing had happened. It was kinda cute.

What?

As I brushed my thoughts away and turned to the front, I saw Moody starting the next curse which I believed was the Cruciatus curse. Silent shrieking sounds could be heard coming from the insect which was amplified by the silence of the class. Neville's face became screwed as you could tell it was paining him to watch.

"Stop it." Me and Hermione both shouted, "Stop, it's bothering him!" I shouted louder.

Professor Moody stared at Neville whose face softened at the sight of the curse stopping. "Perhaps one of you girls could give me the last curse?" Me and Hermione stared at each other slightly before falling silent again. "Miss (Y/L/N)? I know your parents have redeemed themselves when it comes to illegal actions but you may know."

I shook my head, not wanting to say anything.

He turned to face the insect before saying "Avada Kedavra." And the poor soul was gone.
