chapt two, can she do better.
Was she wrong, was she right? Will she be forgiven? Can she do better? Nobody wants to give her an answer when she's asking the wrong questions. Try focusing on bandaging all that bleeding anger━━━it's not like she'll listen anyway there's too much inside suffering and tending to one will prod another wound until she chokes in her sorrow. She'll leave it for another day.
"Why are you eating like a pig?" Theo complained. Unnecessary. Glancing at him she tries to stop imagining him as the little boy she'd hold him in her arms and sing him to sleep when he couldn't sleep. They hated it.
In response, she smiled jaw stretching to fit her pearly white shark teeth. She dares him to make another comment about her appetite. A salted curly fry flung and caught in her mouth. The second one missed, her chunky lime green sneakers backed to not crush it mashed potato. "I'll pick it up on the way out."
She snatched the mirror from above and lifted her white cap, the years of clogged dirt has seriously helped cleanse her pores.
"Your threats aren't threatening anymore," Theo replied, his fingers tightening on the rubber wheel and made a turn into their new school. She scoffed mentally. Packed with students pouring out of yellow buses, clinging to others or rushing to get inside alone. She doesn't fit in. "Next time, you can walk then."
"Someone will be begging to give me a ride by the end of the day," Leviathan retorted, flicking the mirror up and squinted at the sun. Not a single soul will. This is a brand new world, she knows nobody except Theo and he doesn't even want to hang out with her. The Dread Doctors' rejection has dug a hole in her brain, a banging reminder of what she had been. No mortal is greater than she, but in high school with their attitudes? They might be. She glimpsed at Theo, swallowing down her insecurities ( lab rats don't get insecure. ). "It's the eyes."
"The same ones that bring out someone's worst fears?" Theo recalled, his mouth pursed to the side in thought with his hand rested on the car key that kept the car rumbling beneath them. "I'm sure that mean you're ugly."
"Ugly?" Leviathan repeated, pursing her lips to the side avoiding looking at herself in the mirror as she fixed her white, sleeveless tank blood red around the hems. One look at the rectangle mirror and her outfit won't look as great as it did in the morning. There'll also be a million more things she can point out but she'll never spew them out loud. Her head fell back on the car seat, a corner of her mouth raised looking at him, "Stop lying to yourself."
The engine switched off and he left. He's lying. He's a liar. Brothers grow up to be liars, he's a perfect example. What God is cursed hideous? She crumbled the soft McDonald's red and yellow packet and slung her grey bag over her shoulders ━━━━ all gifted from Theo's parents. Human parents. It's an unusual concept compared to hers.
