Greg's death had been quick as had the next six that challenged me. The others I began to play with, why shouldn't I have some fun. No one of any power or brains challenged me; this was just natural selection at work. The rest of the day consisted of answering questions, confirming alliances, and studying for the meeting.
"Will you ask them?" Keri was helping me organize the work packets.
"What?" I want to hear her ask, I want the others to know what I'm about to do.
"Will you ask them to become Alpha Females?" The room stops, Gammas, Eplisons, and the Zetas freeze. What I'm doing goes against their ways.
"Lunas are mother Alphas, not Alpha mates. I learned a lot stuck in the library hiding from King Prick. While I wouldn't like to repeat it I am grateful for it. It's only been in the last few hundred years that Alpha Females have been called Lunas. Before that packs had two Alphas, they balanced each other. Luna was the title given to Alpha's mother and Aku was the name given to his father, if the shift of power was done peacefully. Where we got the idea that every power change should come with a death is beyond me. I aim to return us to those days, when pack and clans respected males and females equally. But not losing all the cool shit we have today." My smirk and wink breaks all the tension.
"I'm not asking anyone to go against themselves. These are Alpha Females no matter what they are called." Sitting down heavily, "I wasn't born a wolf, yet even I know only the strongest lead. I studied Biology in college, specifically the predator/prey relationship of the wolves and the mountain ungulates. Anyone with half an idea of wolf relationships knows that strong doesn't just mean muscle. It's cunning and using that for the best of the pack." Standing up and stretching. "Neither people nor animals change because they want to, it's a need to. The need is here, how fast it happens will depend on them."
"What about Alpha Stone?" Gamma Motley has asked the question floating around all their minds.
"I don't know. But I want all of you to know that pack comes first. We may never be a true and complete couple but we will do what is best for the pack."
"You two being a complete couple is what is best for this pack!" An Elder stands in the kitchen. What is it with these guys? Time to end it.
"I'm sorry Alpha Rom", Lilly says from behind the offender. The Elder hisses in affront,"This Elder pushed his way in."
"No worries, Lilly. Beta Utah, would you be so good as to gather all the Elders in the spar pit. I'll meet you there within the hour." Without a word he was gone. "As for you", turning to the awaiting Elder, "your business will be handled when we're all gathered." He is pushed out the back door and given to the Elpisons there, they would take him to the designated area and guard him till it was time.
After checking on Boann, I head back out to the sparring fields. One thing about it, I was going to get my steps in today. Less of a crowd, more of a concerned mob, made up of the Elder's families. Greeted me at the sparring ring. The last 10 Elders stood in small groups, the loudest and largest held 4 males. Including the one who invaded my home.
"Elders, you wanted my attention. Now you have it." I stand on the training node so they can see me.
"Luna, it's time you put away your childish pursuits and become the female this pack needs." The other males in his group nod as a few others attempt to put more distance between them.
"And you are?" Elizabeth had never informed me of all the Elders. She had said I had plenty of time to learn them, we had so much more to learn.
"I am Elder Albert Edmonton." He says it as if I should know his name.
