The clinic was as cold and quiet as a tomb. I passed the nurse on duty with a nod, she bowed but said nothing. Entering the Stone's room I had to smile at the irony, he put me in here how many times? Que Sera Sera, it was a new day. MY DAY! I hadn't been at his side long when a Healer entered.
"How is he?"
"Resting"
I waited for more information, when none came, I turned to face her. "Is that all?"
"You should know where he is and how is feeling."
Laughter rang out into the halls, "I don't, he killed our link". Staring at her it dawns on me, she's not a healer but an Elder. But if she wants to play, so be it.
"How can you be so cruel to your own mate?"
"Where were you when he drugged me to the post? I don't recall hearing your voice scream "NO" as the whip sang it's terrible song. Where were you when he locked me up?" She remains quiet, her face becoming redder, anger streaming for her very pores. "Where were you when he marked me without my consent?"
She hisses before attacking. A Healer comes in just in time to catch the Elder's body. "If you please, the trash needs to be removed." Turning back to Stone's prone form. The door opens and scuffling can be heard when the door shuts again, "Healer what's your prognosis?"
"Um, Lu.. I mean Alpha Female..."
"Rom is fine if you must be formal Alpha Rom." As I touch his hand his heart rate picks up. My wolf calls to his, I wait as they greet and comfort each other. His skin stays buried, much to my relief.
"It's a good sign." The healer busies herself taking his vitals and straightening his bedding.
"What is?"
"His wolf and your wolf. The fact that his wolf is this active, it means the fur is strong, even when it's in skin."
"Were you one of the healers on my case?"
"No, the Alpha wanted only doctors. He felt that healers weren't necessary." She hangs her head, as if ashamed.
"Healers are more important than Doctors. They don't start with drugs, but have the option to use them if all else fails. You will be his healer, no other will overrule you about his care." Her shocked gasp is worth everything. "If you have any problems contact Beta Keri. If there is any change contact me directly. Now if you don't mind I'd like a few moments with my mate." These males who claim they want the old ways maintained then forsake our Healer, just because most are female and have witch blood. No more. We will return to the old ways the days before the rise of the male ego when packs were run by two Alphas and Females were valued.
"Of course, thank you Alpha Rom. I will not fail you." Little does she know she really can't.
As the door closes I return to his bedside, "Listen to me, King Prick. I want you to sleep, sleep for years, for decades. I have a world to reshape and you are not going to get in my way. When you decide to help me then come on back. Otherwise stay in there."
I can feel him reaching out for me, like malevolent tentacles they brush over my mind. But it's too late, it's time to see my home. I'm gone without a backwards glance.
I arrive just as Boann is rousing up, she is still loopy from the meds but has realized I'm not close. Rushing in I cuddle her before she begins to wail, "Good morning, sugar". Changing her and bathing her are a breeze this morning. It's amazing how easy something is when you have the right tools. Then down to breakfast, Keri and three others are at the kitchen table two more are cooking. "Morning all, does she have a bottle?"
