when he had heard of the news, he began to fear for his life. there was no way he could tell his boss. He might have him dead if he ever told him. but he also knew his boss would begin to be suspicious if he did not have an answer about the dead man's whereabouts.
and speak of the devil, his boss just walked through the door, in his simple denim jacket, and black jeans. He threw his bag on the floor ; it sounded heavy, and fell with a small thud. he could sense the older man shrinking behind the couch, hoping that he would go unnoticed.
"jake? what's the problem? he asked sternly, catching him off-guard. jake almost fell off the couch at the sound of his voice, and he knew that there was something serious he was unaware of.
"b-boss! you're home," jake stuttered, standing up slowly to give him a bow.
the man sighed. he placed his hand on his hip and shook his head.
"i already told you, jake. you don't have to call me that. you can just call me jungwon."
....
jungwon, despite being smaller and younger than jake, radiated powerful energy. he looked intimidating behind the kitchen table, sitting on his chair with his legs crossed. his mere gaze alone was terrifying, his eyes sharp and just a simple eyebrow raise was enough to have you shaking in fear.
"so?" he began, trying to coax jake into telling him what was wrong. "what happened? and why isn't kyungmin home yet?"
jake wiped the sweat emerging from his forehead and dripping down his face. he dared not to meet the eyes of his superior, he feared his intense stare. but he also dared not to disobey him. he was afraid that that would end up in even more dire consequences.
jungwon's questioning stare became slightly more intense, and jake knew he couldn't hide from it anymore.
"kyungmin...is dead."
jungwon's eyes widened. his body froze with shock.
"what the fuck do you mean, dead?" he asked, his voice quiet.
"the masked man caught him, after finding out he was working for the person who stole lee heeseung's diamonds. kyungmin wouldn't give him any information, so the masked man...got rid of him."
jake got startled when jungwon slammed his fist against the table, making whatever was sitting atop it shake.
"fuck that guy!" he yelled in fiery anger. "fuck him! why did kyungmin have to be so loyal...if only...."
jake wasn't phased by jungwon's anger, but was suprised when he noticed tears from his eyes. he didn't know if he should have gone to him and hugged him, or comforted him, when the boy started to break down into cries.
kyungmin was jungwon's only friend since kindergarten. though jungwon was techincally his superior and he'd sworn loyalty to him, they were closer than anyone could ever imagine. jungwon would never admit it to anyone else but kyungmin and jake, but kyungmin was like his support beam, and he needed him.
