"Wait. What are you saying, Stevie?" Lindsey stopped the track and she looked at him over the rim of her glasses.
"What do you mean, where?"
"The first line of the chorus." Lindsey specified, walking over to Stevie to check the lyric sheet she had, maybe there was a typo.
"Hello, hello, said angel."
"No, it's not said, it's sad." He pointed at the word, which had in fact been written correctly. "Steph, the song is called Sad Angel."
Stevie shifted in her seat, her cheeks now a pale shade of pink. "I guess, I kind of improvised there. But don't you think that sounds better? Like, hello, hello, said angel..." She sang. "Have you come to fight the war? That makes sense, no?"
Lindsey suddenly had a flashback from recording one of Stevie's songs on Say You Will years ago. But it was his song this time, those were his words. "Well, uh... not... really. It actually loses the meaning if you switch those two words, from sad to said. Because I'm talking about a sad angel here, I'm talking to you."
Stevie fell silent and Lindsey's heartbeat picked up pace. She was either trying to understand, what he meant, or they were about to have a huge argument.
"I really had you worried for a minute there, huh?" Stevie picked up a pen and wrote 'SAD' above the printed word.
Lindsey exhaled heavily and the color returned to his face. "But that does make sense, right? You see, what I had in mind?"
"Yes, Linds. Relax." She said, looking up at him. "You should have told me, why you wanted to rerecord this. I didn't know, I was making a mistake."
"As I'm sure you can tell, I'm pretty scared of you." Lindsey rolled his eyes at the smirk on her face, which he leaned in and kissed right off her lips. "Okay, let's make this one count and then-"
Lindsey got interrupted by the knock on the door. A second later, it opened and Kristen stepped in. The first thought, running through Lindsey's mind, was that he could have been easily caught kissing another woman by his wife just moments ago, and the second - Kristen's presence had just burst his and Stevie's bubble. It won't last, her words rang in his head, you and I both know that it won't last.
"I hope, I'm not interrupting." Kristen spoke up, when nobody else did. "Just wanted to let you know, we're back." She added, looking at Lindsey.
"Did everything go okay?" Lindsey asked, thinking that was a stupid question, but he didn't know, what else to say.
"Yeah, the girls had fun." She nodded, glancing at Stevie, before her gaze shifted back to Lindsey. "And here? Have you manage to get a lot done?"
"Uh yeah, we've done a lot." Lindsey nodded, feeling his mouth go dry. "We'll do another take and then come out, say, hi, okay?"
"Sure." Kristen gave a shrug of her shoulders and turned around to leave.
The mood had changed just like that. Lindsey wanted to say something, but he didn't really know what. He faced Stevie and thought that perhaps he was the one, handling the return of his wife worse than she was. Getting up on her feet, Stevie walked to stand beside Lindsey, she placed her hand on his shoulder.
"I'm okay." She said and bent down a little to kiss the top of his curls. "Come on, we can come back to this later." She gave him a smile, which she hoped seemed sincere enough.
